What do you think? Is it Ouch cool, or bridge-player with her specs 'round her neck.

I'm just wondering, cos I have little to think about, whether or not the new bbc programme make it chavy? Or, would the people who take their inspiration from tv not touch a name like Nancy. I think it's quite cool; in a Lois/Margot kind of way.

I know a 2 toddlers called Nancy. Wasn't sure what I thought of the name when the first one was born, but now I really like it.

No No No.

I'm going to have a Nancy.

I love Nancy, but there will be people who think you have named your child Nancy because of the Lloyd-Webber revival of Oliver! Oom pah pah!

I have a v cool, intelligent, beautiful cousin called Nancy, and another cousin who called her dd Nancy (now about 5yrs old).

I hate the name, although my ds has recently been reading the Arthur Ransome books, in which Nancy Blackett is a really great character. But to me it suggests Nancy-boys (e.g. poncy spineless people).

It also reminds me of a cleaning lady who used to clean the corridors etc in the nurses' home, when I was doing my nurse training. She was really bad-tempered. I'm afraid that has coloured my judgment.

I had this as my girl's name (I had two boys). Love it, love it, love it.

berolina · 24/03/2008 22:43

I really don't like it myself, but on hearing it I wouldn't think 'what a horrid name' or have negative associations.

MrsMattie · 25/03/2008 21:53

Usually hate all those old fashioned grandma names - Elsie etc (vomit emoticon). But Nancy is an exception - great name.

I have a Nancy and seem to meet a new one every day! It's a form for Anne...I wanted to put Nanette on the birth certificate but DH vetoed that (we put Nancy down in the end).

moodlumthehoodlum · 10/06/2008 23:03

love it so much I might almost want to have another baby to name it Nancy.

DKMA · 10/06/2008 23:08

There is a Nancy at nursery with my lo. They call her 'Nancy Noodle' - she's very funny and full of beans

serin · 10/06/2008 23:22

I really really wanted Nancy for DD1 who is now 11 but DH hated it as it reminded him of a dowdy bridge partner of his mothers.

DD much prefers the name that we did eventually give her, but often calls herself Sizzy which is what her bothers have always called her.
