What do you think? Is it Ouch cool, or bridge-player with her specs 'round her neck.

I'm just wondering, cos I have little to think about, whether or not the new bbc programme make it chavy? Or, would the people who take their inspiration from tv not touch a name like Nancy. I think it's quite cool; in a Lois/Margot kind of way.

ARe you all really discreet about your children's names? I'm curious. Is it a serious breach of etiquette to reveal ones children's names?

I'd love to know what your boy's name was. As not many people would have seriously considered Nancy, so your taste must be quirky.

Nancy, must have seemed weird, but quite often Chinese people adopt English names, but they are of the wrong generation. Nancy is one that they sometimes use as it's close to a Chinese name. Ken is another one that made me laugh, on a 22yr old!

Before my comment is analysed any further... It was only a joke.

Mme Cholet I think a lot of us like to remain anonymous on here, so avoid identifying details such as dc's names

Absolutely fair enough. I'd hesitate myself. I have said on US boards, but that's a bit different. I didn't used to live in the US for 14 yrs. I don't know a soul there, so I don't care.

I went to school with a Nancy so the name for me conjours (sp??) up an image of sensible shoes , basin haircut.

My mum gets called Nancy but her real name is Agnes (which she hates).

Also nice because of the song 'Nancy With The Laughing Face' (really old one).

nancy75, am somewhat at your experiences - I'm a fellow Nancy and have never had negative comments about it (maybe at school like everyone about something) and only infrequently had it mistaken for Natalie. (I'm 36, btw).

Biggest problem was in Spain explaining it wasn't pronounced NanTHY I have to say!

My mum named me after Nancy Astor - not for her politics but because she was the first woman to serve as an MP.

On the OP, is there a BBC programme which is going to make my name chavvy? Must I leave the country or change it to Chardonnay or similar?

Tribpot, you know that programme a while back called "How do you solve a problem called Maria" where Andrew Lloyd Webber looked for a Maria for The sound of music.

Well, now they are looking for a Nancy for..... I will remember in a second.

Glad you liked being a Nancy! What good taste your Mum had. And I like where she took her inspiration.

For me: no, but the name originally is a nickname of Anne. Or Agnes in Scotland.
