I'm a Claire (I'm 41 btw) and I've had it misspelled as Clare, Clair, and even Klair... but 'Clayre' is a new one on me!

I'm not sure it is timeless unfortunately. Laura is probably more so.

I’ve never been very keen on Claire for some reason. Laura is pretty though, and I don’t think it sounds too dated.
