Reuben or Reggie? Help!!

We are finding it so hard to name a boy. We already have a daughter Matilda.
we can’t agree on any names that we both like. We’ve been through the top 100 numerous times. Reuben seems to be the only one. My husband’s grandad was called Reginald so I’ve suggested Reggie as an option which he isn’t 100% on but we can’t decide so interested to others thoughts and opinions.

which do you like best Reuben or Reggie

Reggie is awful, sorry. Reuben is better..

tokesqueen · 18/01/2024 18:46

Reggie. lol.

sunflowerpinks · 18/01/2024 18:58

I also regard Reuben as a very Jewish name

Bertiesmum3 · 18/01/2024 19:05

Really dislike both names, both so common now.

BatteryPowerGnat · 18/01/2024 19:07

Reuben is a good name.
Reggie is an ugly name, in the same category as Archie, in my opinion.

theduchessofspork · 18/01/2024 19:54

Reuben

Reggie does sound like a criminal. Obvious his peers won’t have heard of the Krays, but it’s got naughty boy rep potential. Also it’s not v distinguished compared to Matilda and Reuben, and Reginald is quite stiff,

It’s a hugely popular name

sunflowerpinks · 18/01/2024 20:08

That doesn't make it any less Jewish in my eyes.

Reuben or Reuven is a Biblical male first name from Hebrew רְאוּבֵן (Re'uven), meaning "behold, a son"

EffieGraysDisappointingWeddingNight · 18/01/2024 20:14

Lots of commonly used names have a Hebrew origin: David, Sarah, Elizabeth

It’s a biblical name, so traditionally Christian as well as Jewish, and at present used by a vast number of people who have no religious affiliation.

SwoopingIsBad · 18/01/2024 21:32

Reuben. NDN's dog is called Reggie.

RuthW · 18/01/2024 21:34

Reuben unless Reggie is short for Reginald.

alorsondanse · 18/01/2024 21:43

Reuben makes me think of an older, Jewish New Yorker for some reason. I don't like it as it's outdated.

Reggie is glorious but over used.

user1492757084 · 18/01/2024 22:42

Reuben. Reggie is only for a cute old guy wearing dark rimmed glasses and making model ships.
Try going through the top 300.

Strictlymad · 18/01/2024 22:50

I have a Reuben is a lovely classic yet not ‘old.’ It was my top pick from the get go, brother to Scarlett. Also on the list we’re Isaac, Noah, Nathan, Jacob, Rafael, Edward.

I feel your pain. We've never agreed a boys name in the 14 years we've been together 🙈 could have named girls but not boys. Typically we've just had our second boy last week! We went for Nathaniel for our 1st born which was a compromise name (more so on my part) and he also gets called Nate. This time was even harder. We both love Issac but it sounds rude with our surname. We went through Miles, Stanley, Joshua, Jacob, Rhys, Ezra, Oliver, Austin, Oscar and Arthur (one of us liked but the other didn't). I wanted Reuben for my first born and after being unnamed for a couple of days my son started calling the new baby Reuben so my husband agreed to give it a go and today we will register him! This time round the compromise has been on his side. I'm so envious of people who both love the same name - just not the way for us with boys and it is a horrible feeling as you feel guilty if your choice gets picked and feel hard done by if you have to compromise. The only thing is that do truly grow into their names and then you can't imagine them as anything else.

Reuben is lovely! Very classy and I like the nickname Roo.

Reggie is godawful. I'm sure your grandad is lovely but it is a criminal name in my ears.

muddyford · 19/01/2024 12:46

Reuben is great. As is Reginald. But not Reggie.

How funny! We are exactly the same- loads of girls names struggled with boys. I loved Reuben, hubby not so sure. We had Arthur, jacob, Joshua and Nathan on our lists! Eventually I got my way with Reuben!

gardenfoundry · 19/01/2024 17:03

Reginald is a great name, but I cannot stand Reggie.

Pemba · 19/01/2024 17:50

Quite like Reuben. Have you also considered Rufus?

Reggie is horrendous. Can't help mentally adding 'Kray' when I think of the name. Even if the gangster didn't exist, it would still be a bit of a joke name from a certain era.

sunflowerpinks · 19/01/2024 17:53

Reginald is worse than Reggie. It's almost as bad as Archibald

sendismylife · 19/01/2024 17:54

Personally I’d go for Reuben. Just a nicer vibe than Reggie.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 22/01/2024 23:45

Reuben.
Robert or Rory?
