Reuben or Reggie? Help!!

We are finding it so hard to name a boy. We already have a daughter Matilda.
we can’t agree on any names that we both like. We’ve been through the top 100 numerous times. Reuben seems to be the only one. My husband’s grandad was called Reginald so I’ve suggested Reggie as an option which he isn’t 100% on but we can’t decide so interested to others thoughts and opinions.

which do you like best Reuben or Reggie

I love Reuben and dislike Reggie

Cas112 · 18/01/2024 15:26

What about Charlie

Snoopystick · 18/01/2024 15:27

Love Reuben, it’s a beautiful name.

beehappy19 · 18/01/2024 15:28

@Cas112 yes I love Charlie and that would be a top choice for me but husband doesn’t like it.

They are both fine and pretty popular at the moment.

As Reggie is widely used now in my opinion it’s lost any negative connotations it may have once had. I’ve heard of it being used as a short form for Gregory or Regan which might sound a little more modern than Reginald if you wanted a longer full name.

Reuben is also perfectly nice!

I think either is fine with Matilda.

PurpleReindeer2 · 18/01/2024 15:55

Ruben much better than Reggie.

PurpleReindeer2 · 18/01/2024 15:55
  • Reuben better than Reggie
MaybeTooLate · 18/01/2024 15:56

Reuben. Reggie sounds like the sort of name you’d give your hamster, for a joke.

ElevenSeven · 18/01/2024 15:57

Reuben.

Reggie is a ‘spirited’ child’s name round here…

FionaPaloma · 18/01/2024 16:02

Reuben - we have one and he’s delightful!

MillicentTheMagnificent · 18/01/2024 16:06

I prefer Reuben

11NigelTufnel · 18/01/2024 16:10

Ruben is the name you both actually like.

bloodyeffinnora · 18/01/2024 16:46

reuben, don't like Reggie, too Kray twin

Doublebiscuit77 · 18/01/2024 16:55

Reggie is more fun and unusual - I haven't met any, thuggish or otherwise. There are a LOT of Reubens. I don't love the name, prefer Rufus or Rupert. It's not awful, though, and it does go with Matilda.

You seem to like 'ie' endings so thinking of a few:
Alfie
Daniel nn Danny
Samuel nn Sammy
Thomas nn Tommy
Henry
Georgie
Rudy
Jonathan nn Jonny or Jonty
Gerald nn Gerry
Toby
Farley
Leonard nn Lenny
Louis
Robin or Robert nn Robbie
Bertie

Sonny
Monty
Harvey
Ralphie
Humphrey
Michael nn Mickey
Martin nn Marty
Anthony nn Tony
Patrick nn Paddy
Laurence nn Laurie
Jamie
Frankie
Douglas nn Dougie
Gregory
Alexander nn Sandy

Reuben, by a long way

AdventuresAwait · 18/01/2024 17:00

Rueben is lovely!

Greengreenpastures · 18/01/2024 17:03

Ray

PickledScrump · 18/01/2024 17:03

Reuben is lovely, really dislike Reggie, but if you don’t like either then keep looking. There’s 1000s of names out there.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 18/01/2024 17:05

I prefer Reuben. Reggie makes me think of an old man.

mnahmnah · 18/01/2024 17:33

We have a Reuben. Other names we really liked were Tobias (Toby), Samuel and Tristan.

AllAroundMyCat · 18/01/2024 17:49

Reggie is a nickname . I'm sure you know that.
If it's what you want then go for it.

Reuben is a traditionally Jewish name but I gather many folk aren't concerned about that either.

WashItTomorrow · 18/01/2024 18:23

How about Richard? Richie?
It goes really well with Matilda, as a 12th century/medieval name.

aibutohavethisusername · 18/01/2024 18:25

Reuben

BingoMarieHeeler · 18/01/2024 18:29

Wow they are both totally opposite names in my opinion! Seems unusual to not be able to pick between 2 such different names. I’d go Reuben out of the 2 but could have spelling confusion - eg in our school there’s a Ruben, a Reuben and a Rueben.

RestingMurderousFace · 18/01/2024 18:35

Reuben sounds like the kind of kid that gets his lunch nicked every day. Probably by a kid named, Reggie. 😐
