Reuben or Reggie? Help!!

beehappy19 · 18/01/2024 14:34

We are finding it so hard to name a boy. We already have a daughter Matilda.
we can’t agree on any names that we both like. We’ve been through the top 100 numerous times. Reuben seems to be the only one. My husband’s grandad was called Reginald so I’ve suggested Reggie as an option which he isn’t 100% on but we can’t decide so interested to others thoughts and opinions.

which do you like best Reuben or Reggie

Love Reggie!

LightenUpTheRideIsShort · 18/01/2024 14:45

I’m not keen on either, but Reuben over Reggie.
There does seem to have been a lot of Reuben threads over the last few months though so there may be a few of them in the same school.

FayCarew · 18/01/2024 14:45

Reggie. I'd put Reginald on the BC. It's a fine name.

We’ve been through the top 100 numerous times.
Why only look at the top 100?

OzziePopPop · 18/01/2024 14:45

Reuben, definitely!

EffieGraysDisappointingWeddingNight · 18/01/2024 14:46

Reuben.

Reggie sounds like some Arthur Daly style wheeler dealer. He'd get you a good deal on knock off air fryers.

SgtJuneAckland · 18/01/2024 14:46

Reggies around here usually have shaved heads and the family dog is a staff or a bully so personally I'd go with Reuben. If you like R names have you considered Rowan?

Toddlerteaplease · 18/01/2024 14:47

Hate Reggie, and Ronnie. Reuben is marginally better.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/01/2024 14:48

I've met several sets of twins called Ronnie and Reggie. Also a Kray!

Whattobakeiwonder · 18/01/2024 14:48

Reuben is lovely.

beehappy19 · 18/01/2024 14:51

neither would be my top choice either :( we are just so far apart on boys names we are having to compromise

Reuben is nice. There are few names I actively dislike but Reggie is one of them.

sunflowerpinks · 18/01/2024 14:53

Reggie sounds so thuggish and Reginald is awful imo.

Reuben is much nicer or how about

Roman
Quentin
Raphael

WineIsNotGoodForMe · 18/01/2024 14:53

Reuben all the way, more classic, yet modern, and a better fit with the other name.

Reggie to me is always linked with the Kray, and that’s not a good look.

What about Freddie?

beehappy19 · 18/01/2024 14:55

@WineIsNotGoodForMe i absolutely love Freddie but it doesn’t fit with our surname unfortunately

Reuben is a sweet middle class choirboy, there are a lot of them about but it’s a sweet name.

Reggie will fix your car badly and then overcharge you

I’d keep looking for a better name.

You say you've been through the top 100 numerous times. But you can look through the top 1000, the 2021 stats being the most recent. Better that than settling for a name you both feel meh about.

Reggie and Matilda are names from my Grandparents generation so if that is coming around again then may I also offer you…

Sydney
Brian
Patrick
Ronnie
Frank

IsThePopeCatholic · 18/01/2024 14:58

Reuben is a great name.

WineIsNotGoodForMe · 18/01/2024 14:58

If I were naming a son tomorrow I would choose:

Finlay
Xander
Isaac

and I think the next “old”
names due a comeback are Michael, Peter, Paul
and John.

SnapdragonToadflax · 18/01/2024 14:58

Reuben is lovely, and I think goes well with Matilda (both were on my lists). Reggie sounds like a 60 year old balding man in a working men's club.

Have you been through all the Mumsnet name list threads? I found a lot of names I'd forgotten existed on those when I was searching.

FluffMagnet · 18/01/2024 14:59

I'm so sorry, but I find Reggie utterly awful. Reuben is lovely, but very much in vogue at present so will probably not be the only one in his class.

beehappy19 · 18/01/2024 15:00

@EffieGraysDisappointingWeddingNight yes to be fair we’ve gone further back than the top 100 but we don’t seem to get anywhere. Thankfully we had our daughter first as we have never yet agreed on a boys name in all the time we’ve been together so it feels like we are going to have to settle with something neither of us are 100% on. I’ll take a look again though

WashItTomorrow · 18/01/2024 15:00

I don’t like either. Neither go with Matilda. But Reuben if I had to pick. Reggie is horrendous.
Robin
Robert
Rupert
are all better than Reuben.

CornflakesOnTheSolesOfHerShoes · 18/01/2024 15:09

Love Reuben, one of my absolute favourites, but I’m Old Testament all the way on boys names - Isaac, Daniel, Samuel, Zachariah, Jacob and Joshua were also on our list.

Really don’t like Reggie I’m afraid. I had a great uncle called Reggie who was absolutely lovely and as far from the East End gangster stereotype as it’s possible to get but I still think it’s an awful name…
