im expecting my first child a little girl and wondered what people thought to the name Caroline with the nickname ‘caggie’?

Middle name would be Mia, so Caroline ‘Caggie’ Mia. Or Caroline Mia. NOT double barrel can I add.

I would go with Carrie . Caggie is awful, could end up being teased and called Gaggie !

Berlinlover · 03/01/2024 14:53

Absolutely awful.

Caggie was the nickname used for a Caroline in the first Made in Chelsea series.

That explains that then...never watched it..🤣

Confusgurl · 03/01/2024 14:53

Some good points!
just to say it wouldn’t be ‘Caggie’ on the birth certificate!
It was just an alternative whilst she was younger for Caroline and can stop using it as she wishes!

I also thought claggy! The poshest Caroline I know is a Caro/Carro

Confusgurl · 03/01/2024 14:54

See I really don’t like Caro haha! Back to the drawing board I think!

I rarely comment on here , but Caggie is a hard no from me !!!

ganglion · 03/01/2024 14:55

Caroline is a beautiful name, Caggie not so much. It sounds like "claggy" and doesn't roll off the tongue.

Dottiespotty · 03/01/2024 14:55

I like Caroline , but none of the associated nicknames .

Dottiespotty · 03/01/2024 14:56

Carrie or cassie both nicer .

Mochudubh · 03/01/2024 14:56

Caroline is lovely but Caggie sounds like a cat bringing up a fur ball🙁.

Sorry, but you did ask.

Edited to agree with everything @DappledThings says below.

There's no point planning nicknames though. If you like Caroline go for Caroline. After she's here you might find yourself calling her Caggie or Caz or Carrie or Monkey or Pickle or anything related or not related to her actual name.

And others will naturally find their own nicknames too. If you find yourself calling her Caggie that's fine too and once you're people will be fine with. But planning a nickname is trying to plan something you don't know how you'll feel about ahead of time.

Bearpawk · 03/01/2024 14:57

Sorry op I think caggie is a very ugly sounding name.

MariaVT65 · 03/01/2024 14:58

Caroline is a lovely name but I also have never heard of Caggie and don’t think it sounds nice.

To me it sounds like something a toddler is trying to pronounce incorrectly.

EverDecreasingStandards · 03/01/2024 14:58

Caggie is the ultimate posh girl nickname

Really? I was thinking it sounds the opposite.
Its really coarse and ugly.

LangMayYerLumReek2024 · 03/01/2024 14:59

Caroline is nice.

Caggie is truly awful

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 03/01/2024 14:59

Caroline is a lovely name.

Caggie is awful though, it's even horrible to say and reminds me of the word cak.

Redwineandcake · 03/01/2024 14:59

Caroline is lovely.
Caggie is awful.

minipie · 03/01/2024 15:00

I suspect Caggie is a nickname that happened by accident eg sibling couldn’t say Caroline properly and it stuck.

It’s not a natural nn for Caroline or a traditional one (like Daisy is a traditional nn for Margaret). Would sound a bit contrived IMO.

Notsurehwhattdo · 03/01/2024 15:02

Scraggy Caggie?! Awh hell no!

I like Caroline, reminds me of the song, sweet Caroline. Bit old womany though!

Cattenberg · 03/01/2024 15:02

Caroline (nicknamed Caggy) was also the name of a contestant in the first series of Big Brother. Yes, I know that’s going back a bit.

I really like Caroline, but I’m afraid I’m yet another person who doesn’t like Caggy.

GrandHighPoohbah · 03/01/2024 15:03

Unless you are vair posh and she will have friends called Bunty and Octavia, Caggie sounds like how I might describe some cream that's gone off.

Better NN for Caroline are Caz, Cazzy or Carrie.

peaceinourtime · 03/01/2024 15:05

I knew a Kaggie in primary school, she was a Katherine. She started at my school halfway through and we just knew her as Kaggie. Kaggie/Caggie is a beautiful name OP. Don’t be put off children like with Kaggie just accept and go with the name.

Pemba · 03/01/2024 15:06

Caroline is beautiful, Caggie really isn't! Sorry, but I find it both strange and quite ugly. It's Carrie or Caro normally I think? Or apparently in Victorian times or earlier they would use 'Caddy' (there's one in 'Bleak House'), but I don't think that would fly nowadays. Containers and golfing assistants spring to mind!

nottaotter · 03/01/2024 15:09

Caggie makes me think of phlegm and a thick/sore throat.
