@Monsteramagic As a name nerd, please don't trust that source. The random online ones are often for people who want to pretend there's a meaning behind their daft spellings or that it doesn't mean what it actually means. Madisyn is just a very poor spelling of Madison, there's no other origin to it.

Madison/Maddison is definitely 'son or Matthew'. I've also seen 'son of Maud' floated about though I personally feel that's unlikely as there are no other instances of son's being named after their mothers to my knowledge.

I think Madison. It's the general accepted spelling in Western Europe and the second D adds nothing in terms of pronunciation or value.

When the name Madison started becoming popular it was deemed to be the name of choice for families from a certain social demographic that also named their children Chanel, Paris, Mason etc.

Ouch! I disagree but I do think it’s very American. Never met a British one but the 2 I know- one was the marketing director at work, the other would be about 9/10 now (older sibling of a boy in DD’s daycare class) and her mom was a paediatric surgeon. I have to say I prefer Madeleine/Madeline though which would probably end up as Maddy same as Madison.

Madison. I'm a teacher and taught a Madison last year - she was lovely. Maybe it's clouding my judgement of the name itself, but I like it! I definitely wouldn't let the comments about it being 'chavvy' (trailer trash) or not a nice name put you off, OP.

I think it's bad forum etiquette to give a negative opinion on a name when an opinion on the name itself is not being sought (and I say this as someone who is far from new to using baby name forums).

If someone asks what you think of a particular name it's fair game to be as honest as you like. If someone gives a list of names and asks for your favourite I think it's perfectly acceptable to be honest about the ones you don't like, to make your feedback as useful as possible. However, if someone has actually chosen a name and is asking for slightly different advice (spelling, middle name to match etc) then I think it's extremely rude to voice a negative opinion on the chosen name.

I'm sure some will disagree, as unfortunately some people enjoy using the anonymity of the internet as an excuse to be as rude as possible, but for me I steer clear of opinions on the name choice itself if an opinion is not being asked for.

That's actually pretty laughable if you believe that.

I would assume it was Madison like the place / president (and strangely a corner shop near me). It's old fashioned enough that it's unlikely there will be another one in her class if that's the aim.

Came back here to say, a FB friend of mine has very recently given birth and named her daughter Madison! I noted the one D for this thread 😂

Madeleine or Magdalen are smarter still.
