Me and DP are looking at names for DC2. I recently found the boys name Eiffion and instantly fell in love, at first glance I thought the name was ‘eff-ion’ and after a further look thought it was ‘ee-fee-on’ but after a quick search I found out the origin of the name and it’s pronounced ‘avy-on’ or ‘ivy-on’ and i still love it but have fallen in love with ‘eff-ion’ especially with the nickname Effie. Me and DP are not Welsh and DS is named Florian but goes by Ori so we aren’t sure if it will sound right . I don’t want to give him a weird version of a traditional welsh name but at the same time I love eff-ion so much. Would it be weird to name him effion even though it’s not really a name or is there any variants that I’m not aware of.

As far as I know Effion isn’t even a listed name, so I’m not mispronouncing it, it’s just like Ffion with a e in front
Ffion is pronounced FEE-on, are you saying that you'd say Effion as Eph-EE-on?
For those saying that Eifion is pronounced Ay-vee-on, it isn't. If it was, the stress would fall on the vee part.
It is definitely 2 syllables.

I know several Efans, it’s fairly common where I live.

It seems to be more popular than Ifan now. Could it be because Efa is popular?

I know several Ifans but only one Efan, so maybe it's regional.

I also really do like efan but not pronounced like Evan but eff-an again I would probably spell it effan or ephan.
Have you an aversion to spelling names correctly? you sound like an idiot now.

Effion sound very fluffy and feminine (which is absolutely fine if you want that for a boy but maybe not so easy on the child) and Effie an obvious nickname that I don't think you will be able to keep within the walls of your house. As it happens I love Effie for a girl.

It just seems like you are giving your DS a life time of spelling/pronouncing/explaining a made up name.

Eifion sounds to me like the water Evian and Effy is for a girl..
The name is also too similar to Florian.
Suggestions ...
Selwyn
Geoffrey
Avery

I’m Welsh living in England. We’ve only given DS a Welsh middle name as I knew that most people would have trouble pronouncing any Welsh names we like.

And you’re proposing making it worse by using a made up one. Poor kid.
