We don’t know what we’re having yet but have a boy’s name sorted. Need your help with girls names please! We’re in Scotland. What’s your opinions on these for a girl?

  • Nairn
  • Blaire
  • Munro
  • Blythe

I dislike blythe the least out of those.

Piffle11 · 24/03/2023 21:42

I must admit that I'm not keen on any of those names, but especially Nairn: Sounds too similar to Bairn.

Nairn the Bairn.

LadyWithLapdog · 24/03/2023 21:44

Sorry, neither. Do you have others?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/03/2023 21:49

Blithe is definitely the lesser of four evils.

What about Susan?

OliviaFlaversham · 24/03/2023 21:51

I’m not keen on any. Blythe at a big push I think.

JussathoB · 24/03/2023 21:55

Munro sounds a bit like a boys name to me

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 24/03/2023 21:56

Nairn - oatcakes
Blaire - looks strange with the e and I’d assume it was a boy
Munro - I would assume it was a boy
Blythe - definitely the best of the bunch. I like it.

Philandbill · 24/03/2023 21:56

Nairn - makes me think of the brand of oatcakes
Blaire - loud noise
Munro - Marilyn
Blythe - best name of these but what if she isn't blythe? I hope she will be but I knew someone called Joy and she was so miserable people referred to her as Joyless...

Having said all of the above if you love the name OP then that is what really matters. People will get used to it and love the child and then love the name. My DDs have unusual names that my mum disliked at first then she loved them and got used to the name.

BernadetteIsMySister · 24/03/2023 21:57

All very harsh sounding- is that the vibe you're going for?

BungleandGeorge · 24/03/2023 21:57

Blythe out of those. How about Iona?

JussathoB · 24/03/2023 21:59

Moira, Morag, Ella, Aileen, Skye, Heather? Blythe is nice though

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/03/2023 21:59

Blythe is nice

The rest are awful / not girls’ names.

Isn’t Nairn a brand of oatcake?

ForensicFlossy · 24/03/2023 22:01

Blythe

KirstenBlest · 24/03/2023 22:08

Nairn - oatcake
Blaire - blare?
Munro - climb every mountain
Blythe - town in Northumberland. Adding an e won't remove the association.

Dundee cake is delicious, so how about Dee?

TomatoSandwiches · 24/03/2023 22:12

What is your boys name, perhaps we can suggest nicer girl names from the feel of your alternative.

rickandmorts · 24/03/2023 22:17

BungleandGeorge · 24/03/2023 21:57

Blythe out of those. How about Iona?

Biased because we called our daughter that but yes what about Iona OP? We've had lots of people say what a beautiful name it is.

allthepeaches · 24/03/2023 22:18

Blythe is the name of a north eastern English coastal town which is not exactly a nice place

stopringingme · 24/03/2023 22:18

Blythe is the only name I would consider out of your list.

Crabbity · 24/03/2023 22:19

Nairn and Munro are definitely boy names.

Blair doesn’t need an ‘e’.

Blythe is… fine….

OP, any reason why it’s these specifically? There are SO many beautiful Scottish names which could be used for a girl..

ourflagmeansdeath · 24/03/2023 22:20

Nairn and Munro are both awful, don't do it. Blythe is alright and I do quite like Blair actually but without the 'e.' To be fair, Blair does sound like "bleugh" which puts lots of people off but I still like it. Honestly they're not my style of names.

BeaLola · 24/03/2023 22:23

Tbh I don't like any for a girl - if I was limited to these options Blythe is the only one I would use - sorry

DarlingG · 24/03/2023 22:25

Thanks for the responses 😂

Tony Blair(e)

Marilyn Munro(e)

Nairn - there not anything remotely feminine about this name - it sounds like a block of granite to me (or an oatcake!)

Blythe - not a fan but as others have said it's the best of a bad bunch and the only one I could slightly consider.

Thanks for the responses 😂

Well, at least you have a sense of humour 😂

KirstenBlest · 24/03/2023 22:28

The DD had better have one too.
