We don’t know what we’re having yet but have a boy’s name sorted. Need your help with girls names please! We’re in Scotland. What’s your opinions on these for a girl?

  • Nairn
  • Blaire
  • Munro
  • Blythe

Nairn also reminds me of oatcakes and munro seems like it should be spelled Monroe instead (as in Marylin.)

So I would choose either Blythe or Blaire. Prefer Blake although I appreciate it isn't on your list.

TenPenceMix · 24/03/2023 22:29

How about Eilidh?

KirstenBlest · 24/03/2023 22:28

The DD had better have one too.

Stop it 🤣

RicciardoPerez · 24/03/2023 22:34

What about:

Skye
Isla
Morag
Eilidh
Iona
Elspeth

LostInTheColonies · 24/03/2023 22:53

Blair & Munro definitely boys' names!!

What about Morven - still a hill but also a girls' name.

Blair & Munro definitely boys' names!!

This is a great shout.

villamariavintrapp · 24/03/2023 23:11

They're not good. Nairn has a horrible nasal noise when said aloud, there's no nice way to say it.

YourWinter · 24/03/2023 23:14

They’re all pretty awful names to lumber a girl with, for all the reasons already stated. Best hope it’s a boy, and your possible names for him aren’t so… rough.

Timeforchangeithink · 24/03/2023 23:23

Blythe is the best of a bad bunch. You could consider Morna instead of Munro?

MajorCarolDanvers · 24/03/2023 23:25

These are all common surnames where I live.

user1492757084 · 25/03/2023 06:26

Blythe is nice for a grown woman and a girl will soon love it.

Cassiehopes · 25/03/2023 07:46

Blythe is cute

PedroPascal · 25/03/2023 07:50

Nairn, Munro and Blair are all boys names, I know boys with all of those names.

Blyth is the most acceptable for a girl. I do know a toddler girl Blake which after 2 years I'm almost used to but it still doesn't sound very nice.

Honestly, of all the names out there, so many are better.

My secret desire for a Scottish girl's name was Jura. DH wouldn't agree to it!

KnickerlessParsons · 25/03/2023 08:03

They all sound like boys' names.
I like Eilidh.

Antiquiteas · 25/03/2023 08:11

Blimey, when Blythe is the best offering…

Pemba · 25/03/2023 08:11

Safe to say that I don't share your taste. They're actually all surnames, why? And why not an actual female name? There are so many great ones to choose from.

Of your list Blythe is the best by a long way, I don't mind it and it has quite a nice sound. (Still a surname though).

Nairn is by far the worst, it doesn't exactly trip off the tongue, it's a town, a brand of Oatcakes, a brand of flooring I think.

Blaire, bleurgh sound, Blair Witch Project, Tony Blair.

Munro, very masculine (in spite of Marilyn), isn't there a range of mountains called Munro?

Olios · 25/03/2023 08:16

Blaire and Blythe

Munro - immediate though was Mungo Jerry. Monroe better imo

Nairn - sounds like an oat cake / biscuit

Olios · 25/03/2023 08:17

Ooh just spotted others say Nairn is an oatcake

sleepismyhobby · 25/03/2023 08:23

I'm Scottish and I only know boys with theses names how about
Isla
Iona
Blair I know both boys and girls with this name
Mhari

SallyWD · 25/03/2023 08:24

I don't like any of them but Blythe is the least bad

Meandfour · 25/03/2023 08:26

I don’t like any of them but Blythe is the best of a bad bunch

Adca · 25/03/2023 08:39

Blaire 😊❤️

2chocolateoranges · 25/03/2023 08:42

I know of a Nairn and a Munro and they are both male.
Blaire I would associate with a boy too but do know of a girl called Blayr.
Blythe is ok,

fairycupcakes · 25/03/2023 09:21

Blythe or Blaire definitely. Blaire is my favourite of the two.

Nairn and Munro I’ve only ever known as surnames.

Wishing you all the best xx

NeverAgain01 · 25/03/2023 09:23

I’ve never heard of any of those names and not keen sorry.
