We already have a Matilda. What's people's thoughts on Zelda for a little sister?

Thank you so much. Some lovely possitives.
I always felt like Matilda was a beautiful name but also confident and a bit funky. So been trying to find something similar and feel like Zelda fits that bill.
I'm British and have never even heard of terrahawks. Lol

I love off-beat names but not this one I’m afraid.

HoldingTheDoor · 23/02/2023 17:41

I did think this and being in my 30s I'm aware of the game but I really don't think many kids would be by the time this one's at school.

The Legend of Zelda games are still being produced. There's one due out in May.

lauraslops · 23/02/2023 17:41

This is true and something I hadn't thought about. Matilda is often shortened to Tilda or Tilly too and I imagine I would end up shortening Zelda to Zelly. So nicknames would be similar sounding too. Although quite like Zel.

Terrahawks.

Used to terrify me when I was a kid

Me too - horrific programme!

Benmac · 23/02/2023 17:48

My cat was called Zelda because she was bold and dramatic

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 23/02/2023 17:49

This is who I immediately thought of too.

DC stepmum is called zelda. We all love her and she is one of the kindest and selfless people we know. Her name is befitting of her xx

toastofthetown · 23/02/2023 17:54

I’m not keen on Zelda. That said, I’m not a fan of Matilda either so maybe the -lda sound just doesn’t work for me. It’s not an objectively bad name though. I don’t think it’s close enough to Matilda to be a dealbreaker, but it’s close enough that I’d keep an open mind on other names.

Zelda Spellman

Legend of Zelda

Sounds magical and mystical. And not in a good way.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/02/2023 18:02

Brilliant name! 👏

cornflakegeneration · 23/02/2023 18:03

I literally can barely look at that picture. Can't even reply to the post. That puppet literally gives me nightmares.

GoodChat · 23/02/2023 18:21

I don't think you'd have used the ellipsis in your thread title if you believed it was a good idea.

GirlAnachro · 23/02/2023 18:30

@ZeldasMum nailed all my thoughts in one post! So I’ll just say I really like it, I like how the names Matilda and Zelda sound together too, like they’re the sort of pair who go on adventures and fight off dragons and stuff. That’s a plus in my book!
Maybe it’s because Sabrina’s other aunt is Hilda, is why they sounds so right together Grin

@MysteriesOfTheOrganism amazing song by an amazing band! No one I ever come across has ever heard of it or them! I get funny looks if I put it on at a party Sad

Katnissx · 23/02/2023 18:32

I really like it 😊

SummerSazz · 23/02/2023 18:47

I work with a Zelda and she's a strong, competent woman so that's my association with the name!

I really like it but not sure about having siblings with names both ending in 'a'. I also like the suggestion of Zadie.

Temporaryname158 · 23/02/2023 18:48

Sounds like she’s a witch from a tv series

Namechange828492 · 23/02/2023 18:48

I think it's so cool, strong and pretty

Rosafiona · 23/02/2023 18:49

Zora?

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 23/02/2023 18:51

@GirlAnachro Some people have no sense of humour - or musical taste! The Bonzo's were amazing back in the 60s, and are still a hoot today. If you fancy some weirdness, listen to Ali Baba's Camel - then check out the 1931 version by Cicely Courtneidge. The lyrics are even more outrageous. 😂

GirlAnachro · 23/02/2023 18:56

@MysteriesOfTheOrganism always up for new wierdness Grin thanks for the reccs, have had a shite day so these will cheer me up! BrewCake

Luredbyapomegranate · 23/02/2023 19:01

I like it. Very jazz age (even if Z Fitzgerald was a bit tragic)
