Classic and Royal Sounding Baby Names

Jenny7866 · 31/01/2023 13:20

We are looking at the classics for a baby name now but still can't decide! Here are some of our ideas:

Alexandra
Christina
Victoria
Catherine
Caroline
Angelica
Elisabeth
Samantha

Does anyone like any of these or perhaps have others to add?

(surname starts with G and is 2 syllables long)

Samantha and Angelica really not classic or royal imo, they definitely stand out from the others on the list which are more timeless feeling. I like all of your choices otherwise, but all are longish names that will probably get shortened so I'd probably pick based on that - Kit/Kitty for Christina or Catherine would be my favourite (although I also have soft spots for Vita for Victoria, Callie for Caroline and Bess for Elisabeth).

Agree Alice, Eleanor and Maria also fit your classic/royal template very well. And with considering Helena, Josephine, Cecilia or Marina if you want something more uncommon and are looking at more European classic/royal names too?

Queen Victoria's daughter was Beatrice.

Christina was a Swedish Queen regnant. There was also a Danish princess who became Duchess of Milan and on being widowed famously declined to marry Henry VIII (he preferred her to Anne of Cleves) on the grounds that she only had one head.

Joking apart, it’s not really royal but I do like Angelica, and it’s a bit more well known now because of Hamilton. It would get my vote from your list.

Do you watch History's calling on you tube? They recently did a video on Christina of Milan (Princess of Denmark. But never spent much time there)

She is quoted as saying she would.gladly marry Henry had she only had 2 heads 😃

@Enko - no I don't but she has long been a favourite of mine since I saw the amazing portrait of her in the National Gallery as a child. It was painted for Henry VIII to inspect to see if he fancied her - probably never crossed his mind that she might not fancy him but the picture really makes her look as if she knew her own mind!

Whereas I knew they were.

Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, wife of King Henry II
Queen Joan, wife of King Henry IV
Empress Matilda, also known as Maude, daughter of King Henry I, who fought a civil war with her cousin King Stephen. Her son was King Henry II.

Nicely done

Eleanor of A and Matilda are the best Queen names of all. They are the most awesome women OF ALL TIME. Don’t diss the She-Wolves!

I know the painting 😁

She is a interesting character who was first married off something like 14 to a man old enough to be her grandfather.

Very interesting historic woman
Ever noticed how the women are often way more interesting than the men and their wars?

londonmummy1966 · 01/02/2023 12:35
