We are looking at the classics for a baby name now but still can't decide! Here are some of our ideas:

Alexandra
Christina
Victoria
Catherine
Caroline
Angelica
Elisabeth
Samantha

Does anyone like any of these or perhaps have others to add?

(surname starts with G and is 2 syllables long)

Caroline of Brunswick was married to George IV and (officially) Queen, although the shenanigans make the War of the Waleses and everything since look rather tame.

Diana
Grace

Not just crazy Caroline of Brunswick. There was also Queen Caroline of Ansbach, wife of George II. Highly intelligent and cultured woman.

Loads of Isabelle/Isabellas, Marys, Annes, (K)Catherines, Eleanors, Mathildas; just the one Philippa.

There was even a Queen Emma - who was actually queen twice to different husbands, and the splendidly named Berengaria, who had the misfortune to be married to Richard the Lionheart. Much good it did her.

Ah, but Queen Emma was originally called Aelfgifu when she was married to Aethelred she unred and only became known as Emma because her second husband, Canute couldn't pronounce Aelfgifu.
Also, interestingly, 'Emma' was the name of Harald Hardrada's mailshirt which he'd left on the ship because the weather was hot and so wasn't wearing when he was killed at the battle of Stamford bridge.

No idea about Harald Hardrada and Emma the mailshirt, thank you!

Not exactly royal/queen (very near miss I think) but there is the fascinating Edith Swan Neck, if we're as far back as 1066 and all that.

Oh yes, I know about Edith Swan neck. She was the 'narural' wife of Harold Godwinssen. He had two wives, Edith, who came first so not really a mistress and another political wife, confusingly also called Edith.
So, yes, Edith can be counted as a royal name.
It was Edith Swan Neck incidentally who identified Harold's mangled body after the battle of Hastings. By a birthmark apparently. Poor thing!

Ooh and then there's Aelflaed, daughter of Alfred the Great, Lady of the Mercians so not really Queen of England of course, which didn't exist until her nephew Aethelstan united the kingdoms. But she was an incredible woman. Queen in her own right after the death of her husband and took the five counties back from the Danes.

Esther. She was a queen in the bible. And it's a lovely name.
