Hey

DH and I are expecting our don soon, he loves the name Idris and if the name didn't automatically make people mention an actor I would it too, what's your opinion and first reactions to the name?

I like it. It's my DN name. He is a sweet boy so it has good associations for me.

I like it. I think it's getting quite popular.

The dragon in the Ivor The Engine children's series from the 70s.
But then, I'm old.

PolarBlair · 29/01/2023 09:08

It is a lovely name.

TitInATrance · 29/01/2023 09:12

Like it for a Welsh child, otherwise I’d wonder why you chose it.

Well remembered!

I like it, if only for the dragon vibes.

I love it

recoveringfixer · 29/01/2023 09:19

I think it's nice. It means 'fiery' so just be prepared to cope with that, if he lives up to his name meaning.😊

Emmamoo89 · 29/01/2023 09:22

I like it

Doveyouknow · 29/01/2023 09:25

Makes me think of cader Idris (the hill) so good association for me.

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 29/01/2023 09:29

I love it, one of my fave boys names. Unfortunately I can't use it for any future son as our daughter is Enid - and I think they sound too similar!

So definitely go with it OP. 😆

eddiemairswife · 29/01/2023 09:38

Reminds me of the advert on London buses in the 1950s.........'Idris when I's dry'

SoShallINever · 29/01/2023 09:56

Gorgeous.
The Welsh have the best names.

Mysmallgarden · 29/01/2023 03:20

Not good.

Can you elaborate why?

Haha, I have an Enid and an Edris – useful for matching nametapes if nothing else.

Patchworksack · 29/01/2023 09:59

Also makes me think Ivor the engine, then Idris Elba, but they are not bad associations.
