What is your views for Oakley for a boy?

My first thoughts were sunglasses. It sounds more like a surname.

SirChenjins · 18/01/2023 12:49

Sunglasses or okely dokely - neither are what I'd want to lumber my precious poppet with.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 18/01/2023 12:50

Interesting that folk on this thread have only met female Oakleys. It's still much much more popular as a boy's name: 908 boys named Oakley in 2021 compared to 52 girls.

PinkSyCo · 18/01/2023 12:52

Awful. Like really really awful.

VickerishAllsort · 18/01/2023 12:53

It's the name of our local butcher's shop, so no.

SignOnTheWindow · 18/01/2023 13:00

To me, it sounds like the cartoon mascot of a building society or council-run exercise initiative.

GlassBunion · 18/01/2023 13:06

It sounds more like a surname.

Figgygal · 18/01/2023 13:08

Not a fan
Its my husbands favourite sunglasses brand and the only one I know comes from a family from hell type set up and is a total shitbag

Emmamoo89 · 18/01/2023 13:09

Lovely name

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 18/01/2023 13:11

I only know it as a friend's surname.

BlockedbyHfromSteps · 18/01/2023 13:13

Ghastly name that isn’t a name. I think it’s horrendous. Poor kid.

Oakley, boakley.

Mouthfulofquiz · 18/01/2023 13:14

Nope. It’s a pet’s name or a pair of sunglasses 😎

GargleGargoyle · 18/01/2023 13:15

I know a dog with that name, so it's a no from me sorry.

happywednesdays · 18/01/2023 13:16

I can't imagine an adult male walking into his office job and introducing himself as Oakley. It might be cute as a child but think about their future.

GroggyLegs · 18/01/2023 13:19

It's a nice sound, but personally I'd file it with all the other Hudson/Jackson/Carter surname-type names, too of the moment for my taste.

Also popular 00's sunglasses.

😂

MassiveSalad22 · 18/01/2023 13:20

Wow surprised by the answers here! Thought MN would hate it! I really like it personally. The ‘brand name’ thing is such a weak argument. You can say that about sooooo many perfectly normal names.

Stickytreacle · 18/01/2023 13:25

Dislike it, sounds more like a place name than a person's name, also reminds me of the old wooden horseboxes.

been and done it. · 18/01/2023 13:52

That's a village in Hampshire

DonkeyOatie · 18/01/2023 19:31

I know one and it gets shortened to Oak all the time. He's a young adult and hates his name.

sanityisamyth · 18/01/2023 19:34

First thing I think of is a make of horse boxes.

Monjardin12 · 18/01/2023 19:36

No, not for me. It sounds like something out of a western.

Sunbird24 · 18/01/2023 19:38

I know two: a dog and a baby boy. I knew the dog first, but even if I didn’t I wouldn’t like it for a person, although I would never say so to the parents. Isn’t it a character on Fifi & the Flowertots (or something similar-sounding)?

HamBone · 18/01/2023 19:44

My neighbor’s Daschund is called Oakley. He’s vicious and has bitten his human family and their other dog. So it’s no from me!

Yesthatismychildsigh · 18/01/2023 19:48

Hideous. Rayban is better.
