Honest Thought's on ‘Tabitha’?

So I’m currently 25 weeks with our 4th!!!!
After much deliberation I’ve really settled on the name Tabitha but have had a real mixed bag of reactions from people regarding the name!

We’ve not told anyone that’s what we’ve chosen but just mentioned it when people have asked what names we like….

Now im not normally one to be too hung up on peoples opinions but Tabitha seems to really unsettle a lot of people! The main issue is I just don’t want to give her a name that she has trouble with when she’s older despite how much my husband and I love it!

She’s our gorgeous rainbow baby so one of her middle names will be either felicity/ Iris then Rose afterwards I.e Tabitha Felicity Rose.

Our other children are George, Tobias and Primrose so wanted another name in keeping and really feel that Tabitha sits so well!

Just very torn on what to do!

I've only ever known cats called Tabitha, as in a tabby .

peanutbuttertoasty · 07/05/2024 15:56

Cat

WhimsicalMoth · 07/05/2024 16:08

Not to blow my cover or anything but that may or may not be my name .........
I personally don't like it for myself, and I've only ever heard "that's a cats name" from anyone else other than my family

Roselilly36 · 07/05/2024 17:10

Many congratulations OP, Tabitha is a gorgeous nam, great choice@MummaR94

MushMonster · 07/05/2024 17:12

It is a no from me

DuchessOfSausage · 07/05/2024 17:38

@MushMonster , @peanutbuttertoasty , the baby is two years old.
FWIW, I know girls called Tabitha but no cats.

I'd say it was quite similar in vibe to Matilda and a nice name for a girl.

Aydel · 07/05/2024 17:44

We have one. She’s known as Tabéa to her friends, largely because Tabitha doesn’t work at all in the country where she lives.

MummaR94 · 07/05/2024 19:00

Thanks all for the nice comments, we love it and that’s all that matters and if she really doesn’t like it when she’s older she can go by her middle name! xx

I've never met a cat called Tabitha. I do remember the TV series about Tabitha the witch, spin off from Bewitched when I was a kid. I loved watching that!

I'm glad you just went for it anyway OP.

Alltheyearround · 07/05/2024 19:11

I love it. It goes well with her siblings' names.

Beautiful! I do know someone with a daughter of this name and it does get shortened to Tabs though. Tabby would be fine though IMHO.

That's apparently what I was named after 🙄😆

RogueFemale · 07/05/2024 19:13

I think it's a lovely gentle-sounding name.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 07/05/2024 19:29

Tabitha is one of my favourite names.

I think the cat reference comes from Beatrix Potter and her wonderful Tabitha Twitchett. But this wouldn't put me off.

Happyearlyretirement · 07/05/2024 19:34

I’ve a Tabitha, in her mid 20s. Everyone always says what a lovely name it is and she really suits it. My mum was the only person that ever said it was a cats name, I’m glad I ignored here as much as I love her and went with our choice. Lovely name not too outlandish but not too popular.

Samzzz · 07/05/2024 19:37

Instantly makes me think of a cat

Perfectpots · 07/05/2024 19:54

I also think of Bewitched.

Its a nice unusual name, I can only think of one and to be fair she is a snotty cow, but she doesn't really suit the name.
