Honest Thought's on ‘Tabitha’?

So I’m currently 25 weeks with our 4th!!!!
After much deliberation I’ve really settled on the name Tabitha but have had a real mixed bag of reactions from people regarding the name!

We’ve not told anyone that’s what we’ve chosen but just mentioned it when people have asked what names we like….

Now im not normally one to be too hung up on peoples opinions but Tabitha seems to really unsettle a lot of people! The main issue is I just don’t want to give her a name that she has trouble with when she’s older despite how much my husband and I love it!

She’s our gorgeous rainbow baby so one of her middle names will be either felicity/ Iris then Rose afterwards I.e Tabitha Felicity Rose.

Our other children are George, Tobias and Primrose so wanted another name in keeping and really feel that Tabitha sits so well!

Just very torn on what to do!

This was one on my list along with Melody which someone else has started a thread about. I think it’s quirky, and a bit different in a good way! DH was horrified and said it was a cats name. Cats are superior creatures so I don’t see that particularly as a problem! Hope you use it. I would have preferred it over the name we actually compromised on 🙁

catbirddogchild · 18/12/2022 15:27

I really like this name. I know 2 both get shortened to Tabby/ Tabs.
The only thing is you also have a Toby and Toby and Tabby doesn't really work
Have you considered Matilda or Jemima? Similar but avoids the Toby/Tabby or Tobias/ Tabitha thing?

If the sibling thing doesn't worry you do us ebit as it's a great name.

MrsColinRobinson · 18/12/2022 15:33

Love it!

Bookworm333 · 18/12/2022 15:36

I really like it and think it goes well with the 2nd names you have chosen. The thing about children's names is that you won't ever get universal approval so if you are looking for that to decide maybe that's your answer. I'd keep a shortlist and see what she looks like when she's born maybe?

Spanielsarepainless · 18/12/2022 15:58

I like it. Just call her the full name to avoid silly diminutives.

LulooLemon · 18/12/2022 19:24

Love Tabitha

MummaR94 · 18/12/2022 21:44

Thankyou all so much!

Definitely going to go for it now unless she looks the complete opposite to what I have in my mind for her 😂 xx

I quite like Tabitha and have only known lovely ones. I wouldn't personally give two children the same first initial, but if that's not something that feels uncomfortable to you, I do think it fits quite nicely with the other children's names. Just in case you are interested in other suggestions I will throw in Matilda, which has a bit the same vibe for me.

Jacopo · 19/12/2022 02:42

Love it, and I’ve never known a Tabitha in my (long) life until last year, a little five year old. I think it’s an beautiful name which is overdue a revival. It will get shortened to Tabby but that’s nice too.

ShoveAHollySprigUpYourBum · 19/12/2022 10:58

I really like it. Conjures up images of a beautiful 16th century woman.

LadyDanburysHat · 19/12/2022 11:02

I've always loved it, DH also said cats name when I wanted it. But it is a lovely name and goes well with your other DC names.

MrsMontyD · 19/12/2022 11:06

I love it, spelt correctly gets a big tick from me. It's unusual but a proper traditional name and goes well with your other dc names.

I don't mind tabby as a nickname, I work with several adults with professional jobs who use childhood nicknames as their first name with no issues, when it's obviously a nickname it's better than a made up or strangely spelt real name. It doesn't work so well with men for some reason.

MrsMontyD · 19/12/2022 11:10

Same initials can be awkward for Mail when they get older, so get into the habit of using all their initials/names on things like bank accounts or ask when you open accounts how post will be addressed, sometimes you can opt to use full names or first name and initials.

yay! I’m so jealous. I wanted it so much for dd2! Hope she looks like a Tabitha!

Luellie · 19/12/2022 11:40

I'm 23 weeks pregnant with my second baby OP, and I also plan on calling her Tabitha 🥰 I say go for it!

FayCarew · 19/12/2022 12:11

Anagram of Habitat

winonarose · 22/12/2022 00:40

I absolutely love Tabitha and always have done

AnaMRT · 07/05/2024 12:45

I’m really curious! What did you end up calling your baby girl?

ColdInApril · 07/05/2024 13:03

I’d stop caring what others think. My SIL made a rude comment about DDs name. What she doesn’t know is we think both of her kids names are stupid, we’re just not rude enough to say it.

NeverHeardOfSuchTosh · 07/05/2024 13:04

It's a cat's name

CurlewKate · 07/05/2024 13:09

@Luredbyapomegranate "It’s fairly popular"

Not sure how you're defining "popular". Around 200 Tabithas out of the 300000 baby girls born each of the past few years!

CurlewKate · 07/05/2024 13:10

Aww, shit! Bitten by a zombie again!

SallyWD · 07/05/2024 13:56

I really love it! I know two Tabithas. One is 14 and one is 8. I've never heard anyone say anything negative about the name.

MummaR94 · 07/05/2024 15:48

We went for Tabitha and it suits her perfectly. Thanks all!

thanks @NeverHeardOfSuchTosh but we are quite happy with our cats name choice!
