Tilly Kate?

My DH and I have settled on Tilly for our little girl.

My Nan and Grandad raised me and I miss them both dearly, my Nan's name was Cathleen however my Gramps called her "his Kate" so o was thinking of Tilly Kate as a nod to them both.

Do you think it goes?

Aria Kate is so much better.

It's personal preference if course, but I really do not like twee cutesy diminutives as full names. Give kids an option!

Tilly is a bit, well silly to me esp for a grown woman!

I do however love Kate!

This, I would go for Matilda nn Tilly

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/12/2022 21:32

Aria is a lot better than Tilly.

Aria Kate is grand

ShillyShallySherbet · 13/12/2022 21:45

Natalie Cathleen
Matilda Kate
Tilly Cathleen

Not so keen on Tilly Kate. Two nicknames.

My immediate thought was Firefly Lane, although that’s Tully and Kate!

fairycupcakes · 14/12/2022 20:05

Aria is lovely. I really love Kate though, it sounds really fresh to me. What about Kate Aria?

AntiqueCestChic · 14/12/2022 20:27

I much prefer Aria to Tilly.

Tilly is too cutesy for me - would suit a toddler but not an adult. Aria would work for all ages!

Moodhasplummeted · 15/12/2022 17:21

I really like Tilly OP. Mumsnet will never be keen on a nickname as a full name but plenty of children have them these days.
Tilly Kate is lovely. Aria Kate is also nice.

Ciaonow · 15/12/2022 18:14

Matilda Kate would be my choice

PacificallyRequested · 15/12/2022 18:26

Aria Cathleen would be lovely. IMO that is the best sounding combo. Really don't like Tilly.

Rauha · 15/12/2022 18:31

Aria Kate is so lovely. I don't like Tilly Kate at all.

Daisy62 · 15/12/2022 18:39

Love Matilda Kate. Agree with everyone else that Tilly is too babyish for the formal name. How about Tilda Kate? Aria is also nice.

BungleandGeorge · 16/12/2022 18:46

I like Tilly better than Aria. Aria is far too trendy because of GOT. They’re both fine though, and popular so she’s not going to have any problems with either (whatever job she wants to do 🙄)

misslucy92 · 16/12/2022 18:49

I‘m sorry, I hear ‚silly Kate‘.

Matilda Kate is nice.

misslucy92 · 16/12/2022 18:52

I like Aria and Matilda the same.

Aria is nicer than Tilly.

Aria hasn’t got anything to do with GOT, though.

Cuppasoupmonster · 16/12/2022 19:14

I really like it! It won’t get good feedback on mumsnet though because it isn’t Elizabeth, Charlotte or Catherine 🙄 but it’s very pretty.

Glassofwhatever · 16/12/2022 19:14

Tilly is Silly end of

tillynetball · 16/12/2022 19:21

I like Tilly Kate. And no it's not actually my name, nor Matilda. Please call your daughter whatever you like best, no matter what anyone says Smile

LittleBearPad · 16/12/2022 19:24

Ottillie Kate? Shortened to Tilly?

BabyYoZenZen · 16/12/2022 19:58

For what it's worth I think Tilly is a great name. I'd spell it Tillie though? I see it as right on trend but very original- not many others around even though it's a very cool name.

Agree with PP though that Tilly Kate doesn't sound as nice, so I'd go with Tillie Cathleen personally!
Aria Kate is very elegant, but would she instantly get 'Ary' as a NN?

BungleandGeorge · 17/12/2022 00:22

MaryMollyPolly · 16/12/2022 19:09

Aria hasn’t got anything to do with GOT, though.

It sounds exactly the same as Arya, so yes whatever spelling people choose they’ve heard it on GOT or PLL and that’s why the popularity has shot up.

mathanxiety · 17/12/2022 00:25

Too close to 'titillate'..

Matilda Cathleen would be gorgeous though.

mathanxiety · 17/12/2022 00:26

Aria Kate is too close to prevaricate..

MoggyMittens23 · 17/12/2022 15:20

cptartapp · 12/12/2022 15:11

Tilly is awful. Wet and infantile.
I don't like Matilda either but it's better than Tilly.
Isn't a lamp for camping called a Tilly lamp?

I have to agree with this, sorry OP. I just can't imagine an adult Tilly (although I am sure there are plenty!)

cosmobrown · 20/12/2022 23:02

We have a Natalie who has always gone by Tillie or Till.
Like other people, at the time she was born I couldn't imagine a grown up called Tillie, but now she is at uni, and still introduces herself as Tillie.

We love it!
