Middle name for Stormi?

Having a hard time choosing. I like Autumn and DH likes Rose. But not keen on either as it sounds like a description rather than a name. Open to any and all suggestions

If Stormi is a given (please no!), then maybe give a middle name a miss op? That first name is enough to deal with frankly.

Does that mean you’re planning to give your child a name that rhymes with her surname as well it’s it being a description of weather?

No. Our surname goes nicely with it. The comment where I corrected myself got lost. It's my first name not last

The thing is OP, people are taking the piss because that's what will happen in real life. They might not say it to your face, in fact they will probably tell you it's lovely and that they love it etc. But I can guarantee the majority will not be thinking that. They'll be polite even when it's a dreadful choice.

I know someone who has saddled their DC with an awful name which has resulted in terrible initials too. No one has said even a slightly critical word to her face, they just nodded and smiled at the bare minimum. But lots of people have gone away and had a reaction of 'they've called the baby WHAT?' and laughed.

People maybe shouldn't judge but the fact is they do, and you saddling a child with an awful (and misspelled) name will not do them any favours.

FettleOfKish · 02/12/2022 08:01

Stormy Eva

Ooh I know one of these! She's called Eva, not Stormy, but catch her at the wrong moment...

stickygotstuck · 02/12/2022 08:01

OP, going against the grain here, but I do like descriptive names. Think many native American names. That's what names were supposed to be originally, and I was always mindful of the meanings when picking names for my DC. My DC has a fully descriptive name, not that we set out for it to be so, but those were the names we loved and had meaning for us. A teen now and never an issue.

However, associations are also important. Although people are giving you a hard time here, that should tell you the level of (mostly negative) associations at this time and in this culture.

If you are set on Stormi, would you consider using it as a middle name instead? And perhaps spelling it as Stormy or even Storm?

Autumn and Rose are both lovely. Thinking about it, Autumn Rose is a perfectly nice descriptive name. So is Autumn Storm as far as I am concerned, although I'm probably in the minority here.

As an aside, I doubt people would have been so forthright if you had already named the baby. As it is, they are trying to warn you off.
Which is what name threads do best - saying something you may not have thought about.

Stormi is a horrendous name, its up the with Mercedes, chardonnay, ellie-mae etc! Your child ( and you) will be judged by every parent they meet! It's indescribably chav! As a pp said Autumn-Rose is far nicer.

You do realise Mercedes is a fairly common “proper” name in Spanish speaking countries? It’s not in the same vein as Chardonnay etc at all.

I’m not going to pile into the OP as everyone else has already done that but I did need to point this one out.

Alondra · 02/12/2022 08:05

I was going to say "night" but saw a post saying Nyte and I think it's perfect! 😁

Ciri · 02/12/2022 08:05

How about Stroppi instead?

Stroppi louise

or just go the whole hog and straight in with

Naughti

Naughti louise

because “names” like this lead to people making assumptions and I can tell you now that the assumptions people will make about Stormi will not be that she is a well behaved academically focussed pupil.

FettleOfKish · 02/12/2022 08:05

OP, your family and friends are unlikely to be honest with you about it. I know a couple of 'interestingly' named children to whom everyone said 'oh how lovely' and then raised all kinds of eyebrows behind the parents backs.

One of them was so ridiculous that the kid had insisted it be changed (to his middle name) by the time he was 6. They've now done it legally, he doesn't just go by his middle name.

If you're going to go with Stormy then please keep the Y. Changing it to an I to match your own name does nothing to dampen the Kardashian vibes, honestly.

lifeinthehills · 02/12/2022 08:06

I feel like I've tried to offer some constructive thoughts and discussion.

I don't think the porn star connotation will be there with kids and, hopefully, by the time anyone is old enough to make it, they'll have more maturity than to tease someone over their name. The whole name in the news should have blown over well and truly by the time this baby goes to school.

marvellousmaple · 02/12/2022 08:07

Stormy Day ( pls drop the i OP)

bloodyplanes · 02/12/2022 08:07

@Snoopsnoggysnog yes i did realise that Mercedes is a common spanish name! However in GB ( im making a big presumption that that is where op is) Mercedes is seen as a chav name ranking up there with Kayden, Jayden, ellie-mae etc!

That's noice, that's unusual... yeah...

Tygertiger · 02/12/2022 08:11

My brother and his wife gave their child a name that me and my parents and other siblings strongly dislike. It’s not even a made-up name, it’s a traditional name that we have all admitted to each other that we really don’t like. Of course we haven’t said anything to him or his wife - we’ve told them what a lovely name it is. That is what people do, OP. Everyone recognises that naming a baby is a very personal thing and hard to criticise. Just because they’re saying nice things to your face does not mean they’re not talking negatively about the name behind your back.

FettleOfKish · 02/12/2022 08:12

@lifeinthehills Gwyneth Paltrows Daughter is 18 now and not especially in the public eye in her own right, but I'm almost certain that a majority of adults on hearing of a baby being called Apple even now would think, 'huh, like Gwyneth's kid'.

Zowie relates to David Bowies Son.
Lourdes is Madonna's Daughter.
Brooklyn is a Beckham.

If the parent stays in the public eye then the child will inevitably do the same (and let's face it Kylie Jenner is showing no signs of retiring).

wizzler · 02/12/2022 08:13

@Lightowl . Thank you. That's made my morning

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/12/2022 08:13

Stormi Elise.
Stormi Grace
Stormi Jade
Stormi Willow
Stormi Belle

catsonahottinroof · 02/12/2022 08:13

I like the suggestions of Eve or Eva up thread.
Jasmine
Petra
Alexandria
Any kind of place name might work, like India?

Stripedbag101 · 02/12/2022 08:14

What about Jane?

it doesn’t pull focus from the first name, but if stormi doesn’t like the attention her first name brings as a adult she can switch easily.

Fair point with Apple. I admit that's the first thing I think of when I hear that name. The other two, not so much associated as stated. I know nothing about the Kardashians other than that they exist, so won't have any associations there (other than the name North).

October2020 · 02/12/2022 08:14

I don't care what you name your child, do what you like and accept that many will judge, but don't lie thst you 'didn't know' Stormi was the Kayne/Kim kid!!! Don't be ridiculous. Own it: if you still like the name, it's fine to say you know and you don't care, but if you lie and say you didn't know then everyone is going to judge you even more!!

caitlinrose · 02/12/2022 08:15

OP, don't be upset. I actually do like Stormy and Storm as well (but for a boy). I wouldn't use them but I can see the appeal.

I would just spell it Stormy. Stormy to me is a neutral, nice nature name. If you spell it Stormi it goes over into influencer-celebrity-reality-show territory. I know you are trying to match it with your name but you will still have a special connection due to the sound, I'd recommend you pick Stormy.

Another issue that I noticed when trying to find good names to go with it is that when you pair it with regular names it sounds like the description of a person with an energetic personality. Stormy Elizabeth or Stormy Kate or something are therefore not good ideas. They are sort of like Happy Chloe or Lonely Joe or something. I tried by saying them out loud and they honestly made me laugh a lot. Sorry! Stormy Elizabeth is quite comical so I would avoid it.

I think your best bet is to go with another word name. I'll try to find some more:

Stormy Autumn - I think this works nicely, I like the image.
Stormy Eve - I think this works because Eve is also a word so in combination I don't think of an angry/energetic person.
Stormy May
Autumn Storm - as someone suggested and you could still call her Stormy.
Winter Storm - Winter is getting popular.

If you go for Storm in the middle and call her Stormy some classic names work too:

Annabel Storm
Isabelle Storm
Chloe Storm
Elizabeth Storm

Elizabeth Stormy
Caroline Stormy
Joanna Stormy
Eva Stormy

It is hard to pair but it's not a bad name (spelt Stormy that is) so stick to it if you love it. Stormy is not much different from Skye or Autumn or Brooke or other word names that are/were popular, people will get used to it quickly.
