Thoughts on the name Wednesday? Always liked it personally from the old adams family movie but dh seems to think it will become more of a 'trend' name with the new netflix show out. Opinions?

Made an account to say what is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly. Any name has the potential to carry power or pity. I have a simple name and yet still had cruel nicknames. I learned to love, appreciate, and find power in my name. I named my daughter Wednesday before the show came out because it’s a name I have always loved and no, she born on a Friday, thanks for asking. My daughter is chaos and sugary sweet, but embodies the very nature of a toddler Addams. She’s YOUR baby, you will find a name that fits her, and say fuck off to the naysayers.

The Addams Family have been around since the 1930s. You may have chosen the name before the current adaptation, but if your daughter is a regular toddler (under three years old) you did not choose the name before the Addams Family.

And it’s easy to talk all the nonsense about ‘it’s YOUR baby, you know what will suit’ but you don’t need to live with that name. I’m glad you feel your daughter is a sugary sweet chaotic Addams family toddler or whatever but in real life people’s names matter. I mean you’ve said yourself ‘no she was born on a Friday.’ Of course it doesn’t piss her off yet because she’s a toddler. But maybe when she’s a bit less sugary sweet chaotic mumma bear whatever other insta-nonsense she’ll get annoyed at being repeatedly asked about her unusual name.

  1. It's not an official ne, it's a day of the week
  2. Would you still call her Wednesday if she was born on a different day
  3. It's a lazy way to name your child, put some effort into it
  4. Introduce yourself as Wednesday for a week & watch their reaction. Please don't subject your child to bullying & nasty remarks.

Agree with this idea though - introduce yourself as Wednesday for a month. Go to a new club or class and introduce yourself as Wednesday, say your Wednesday at Starbucks, so on and so forth. See how it feels to be Wednesday.

Wednesday? Wed-nes-day? Confused

Libre2 · 07/12/2022 13:49

Hump Wednesday.

I don’t dislike it but that’s what I think when I head Wednesday- hump Wednesday. It’s probably not great.

midsomermurderess · 07/12/2022 13:58

@FlamingJingleBells You say giving your child a day-of-the-week name is lazy but it’s common in other cultures, eg in Ghana. So Kwasi means ‘Born on a Sunday’; Kofi is Friday (boys) and eg Akuba (girl) is Wednesday.

rudolphrainbownose · 07/12/2022 15:31

I love it :)

gaf · 07/12/2022 16:42

Wednesday is happy hump day, I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

I read something on fb about a mum who named her baby Wednesdaigh. Her other kids had fucking awful names too.

Enko · 07/12/2022 23:54

I quite like it. Also like Tuesday

Purplemagnolias · 08/12/2022 20:02

I wonder how the name would translate to other languages - Mittwoch, Mercredi?

KirstenBlest · 09/12/2022 09:51

Wednesdaigh?

Callieviolet · 09/12/2022 10:52

A friend of mine has a ‘Sunday Rose’ - all I hear is ‘Sunday roast’.

inappropriateraspberry · 09/12/2022 10:57

Would you call your child Monday, or Saturday? No, so don't call them Wednesday!

Purplemagnolias · 09/12/2022 14:22

Or Friday nickname Fry?!

Kanaloa · 09/12/2022 14:24

Purplemagnolias · 09/12/2022 14:22

Or Friday nickname Fry?!

I mean to be fair at least Friday is everyone’s second favourite day. Wednesday… hump day… middle of the week drag… it’s not even a good day!

MerryMarigold · 09/12/2022 16:41

Call her Wensdaie and then you get the same sound without the bad associations 😉

Zelda93 · 09/12/2022 16:44

I went to school with a girl called Monday 🤔

Gingersnappy · 09/12/2022 20:18

Pandor · 09/12/2022 20:23

jnoOLDIE · 09/12/2022 20:26

gaf · 09/12/2022 20:41

That reminds me of Wensleydale... which I'd prefer as a name to be fair! 😂

KirstenBlest · 10/12/2022 12:43

That would be too cheesy, @Stayathomenamechange.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/12/2022 13:23

That would be too cheesy

But you get more than a few people called Bree.

Stinking Bishop, not so much Grin

KirstenBlest · 10/12/2022 13:38

There's a cheese called Orla, and Lester (Leicester) is a known boy's name
