Thoughts on the name Wednesday? Always liked it personally from the old adams family movie but dh seems to think it will become more of a 'trend' name with the new netflix show out. Opinions?

Sunday and Friday aren't uncommon

Wow, I've never come across or heard of anybody called those at all myself. I had no idea they were now in the regular name canon!

SunshineAndFizz · 01/12/2022 07:06

Terrible.

TheBirdintheCave · 02/12/2022 15:38

I don't see days of the week as usable names. For me they're not like gemstones, flowers or virtue word-names which have extensive historical usage.

It's made worse by the fact that the word 'day' is right there too, to further the 'not a human name' point, it's so jarring.

The days of the week in English are named after Norse gods.

Dotingmumandgranny · 02/12/2022 15:44

No, it's awful.

frenchnoodle · 02/12/2022 16:10

Stormi Wednesday...

Would you really want to be an adult called Wednesday?

Yeah, sure, why not? I've also always loved the name April (but DD was born in a different month so no go).

mishl · 02/12/2022 18:16

I think it's really awful, to be honest. Of all the beautiful names in the world, why name your child after a mediocre day of the week? And frankly the Adams' family names are supposed to sound weird - that's why the creators picked them.

Hibye23289 · 02/12/2022 18:24

Does anyone actually think of the children in this whilst they are picking out names they like? The child has to go through school, getting teased by other children, some names the teachers can't pronounce, it's hard to carry a silly name forever. My name was difficult at school and it's only now I'm an adult I am less bothered and it is slowly becoming more popular.

DillDanding · 02/12/2022 18:25

Utterly ludicrous.

Da ra da uh (click click), Da ra da uh (click click). That's what she'll hear most of hear life 🙄 please don't do that to ur child!

UrsulaPandress · 02/12/2022 18:43

If I’d known DD was going to be 8 days late I would have called her October.

I read a book when I was young about a girl called October who rescued a palomino horse and hid it on a houseboat.

Namechangedforthis12456 · 02/12/2022 19:01

I really love it and personally I like the Addams family link.

I wanted it for dd but my ex husband was completely against it. Ironically we ended up settling with Lydia in the end. We both loved the character in Beetlejuice as well as the name. Still think she’d have made a good Wednesday though!

fannyfartlet · 02/12/2022 19:52

Reminds me of the Aadams family

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 02/12/2022 19:58

Vallmo47 · 30/11/2022 19:13

I guess it’s one way of teaching your kid and their friends how to spell the weekday, Wednesday is the one most commonly misspelled I’ve been told. :)

Sorry but it’s a firm no from me.

My father has an acquaintance who has a teenage daughter named Wensdee ( even worse)

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 02/12/2022 19:59

No. It's clunky and not a name. At least Tuesday and Friday and Sunday are easy to spell and pronounce. I think with the weirdo Addams link you're settling the child up for a lifetime of teasing.

EmilyGilmoresSass · 02/12/2022 20:25

As an update, since I saw this post, I have had the Addams family tune in my head and it hasn't made me like the name anymore. So I can only imagine how Wednesday herself would feel as the kids hum and click their fingers around her at school

Hawkins001 · 02/12/2022 21:06

@MinaN

let's discuss the matter of the name Wednesday, while in the dungeons drinking tea and eating scones.

an apt and excellent name tag.

Penguinsmum · 02/12/2022 21:09

I like it

TheNextMorticia · 07/12/2022 03:47

Made an account to say what is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly. Any name has the potential to carry power or pity. I have a simple name and yet still had cruel nicknames. I learned to love, appreciate, and find power in my name. I named my daughter Wednesday before the show came out because it’s a name I have always loved and no, she born on a Friday, thanks for asking. My daughter is chaos and sugary sweet, but embodies the very nature of a toddler Addams. She’s YOUR baby, you will find a name that fits her, and say fuck off to the naysayers.

Sunglasses8 · 07/12/2022 03:51

Didn’t some made in Chelsea / towie etc person name their child Sunday?

Wednesday as a name is too Addams Family. The character is too iconic and Wednesday as a name is too rare for a child named it to ever be able to avoid the association.

Judgyjudgy · 07/12/2022 03:56

No because of Adams family. Doubt no if they're not acryally born on a Wednesday. I had a friend called Tuesday when I was young

MerryMarigold · 07/12/2022 04:02

"Monday's child is fair of face Tuesday's child is full of grace Wednesday's child is full of woe Thursday's child has far to go
Friday's child is loving and giving
Saturday's child works for its living
And a child that's born on the Sabbath day
Is fair and wise and good and gay.

It's the only horrible day of the week out of the whole rhyme. Morticia actually quotes it in the new series and the first episode of the series is entitled "Wednesday is full of woe." I would go for Friday or Tuesday!

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 07/12/2022 04:03

First thought "Wednesdays child is full of woe"
Second thought Wednesday Adams
Third thought, Wednesday is hump day.

FlamingJingleBells · 07/12/2022 07:51
  1. It's not an official ne, it's a day of the week
  2. Would you still call her Wednesday if she was born on a different day
  3. It's a lazy way to name your child, put some effort into it
  4. Introduce yourself as Wednesday for a week & watch their reaction. Please don't subject your child to bullying & nasty remarks.
