Thoughts on the name Wednesday? Always liked it personally from the old adams family movie but dh seems to think it will become more of a 'trend' name with the new netflix show out. Opinions?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Nicole Kidman has a daughter called Sunday. Re query why one days the week aren’t used?

nancydroo · 30/11/2022 18:50

Love it

Blowyourowntrumpet · 30/11/2022 18:52

It's dreadful

35965a · 30/11/2022 18:53

It will definitely become a bit of a trend with the popularity of the new Wednesday show.

justasking111 · 30/11/2022 18:53

It's going to be shortened to Wends, if you like this well okay

romdowa · 30/11/2022 18:54

I know someone who called their child the Irish for Monday. Luan. So why not Wednesday?

Blendandmix · 30/11/2022 18:55

I knew a girl called Tuesday. Wednesday is better than Tuesday as a name but tbh I think all days of the week names are just mean

dustywindow · 30/11/2022 18:56

I love it would actually change my name to it Blush

Blendandmix · 30/11/2022 18:56

@Crazykefir my Tuesday friend was born on a Saturday

xJ0y · 30/11/2022 18:56

Dé Luain is only Monday with the Dé before it. Otherwise it's just moon I suppose

Roselilly36 · 30/11/2022 18:56

Adams family to me, Also isn’t Wednesday child full of woe? There is are so many beautiful girls names, why choose such a dull, unimaginative name.

cleanfreak12345 · 30/11/2022 18:57

Awful

Why are Tuesday and Wednesday the only day names that people ever use?

Why not Saturday - nickname 'Turd' ?!

It’s like month names. You never meet a November, or an October.

I can already hear the other kids at school whistling the Addams family theme tune and clicking their fingers 🙈

This.

Don't set your child up to be a target, it's cruel.

toastofthetown · 30/11/2022 18:59

I find Wednesday a very ugly sound. I’ve seen a fair few online discussions for Wednesday over the last few years, but would be surprised if it became anything more than a blip in the popularity charts. I just don’t think the sound has mass appeal.

LidlCinnamonBun · 30/11/2022 18:59

I love it.

Moonatics · 30/11/2022 19:04

I knew a Tuesday which suited her.
I know an April who was born in July.
I wouldn't rule out Wednesday, I like it but maybe not now, wait a couple of years.
I don't know any Sunday's but I like that too.
Have you look at other languages to see if it sounds better?

Stayathomenamechange · 30/11/2022 19:06

It's very clunky sounding and ime people pronounce it in all sorts of different ways. One of my colleagues says Weddensday and I know someone who says Wennersday, then there's all the "wensday" people. Now I'm wondering how it's meant to be pronounced, actually 😂

romdowa · 30/11/2022 19:07

xJ0y · 30/11/2022 18:56

Luan is Monday.... gealach Is the moon. Luna was the celtic god of the moon .

Stayathomenamechange · 30/11/2022 19:08

Also, some annoying people call it "hump day"

SkylightSkylight · 30/11/2022 19:08

You asked for 'thoughts on the nsne'

my thoughts are that naming a child after a day of the week is cruel & stupid.

Quite apart from that, I think it sounds ugly

Imagine being in a playground & calling Wednesday?!

just WHY? There are millions if actual names, which aren't days of the week.

you did dk.

if you introduced your baby to me as Wednesday, I'm smile & say 'oh that's lovely'
but inside think 'what were you thinking, poor kid'

Thanks for this, will never see Saturday without seeing Turd ever again 😂

Vallmo47 · 30/11/2022 19:13

I guess it’s one way of teaching your kid and their friends how to spell the weekday, Wednesday is the one most commonly misspelled I’ve been told. :)

Sorry but it’s a firm no from me.

gaf · 30/11/2022 19:45

Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) has a DD called Wednesday.

I don’t like it as a name, personally.

Tripsabroad · 30/11/2022 19:46

I love it and would be happy to be called it!
