Otto, rollo, Humphrey….or similair

We are due with our little boy (brother to Rupert, Ophelia and Tabitha) but I’m struggling with boys names!

would love suggestions for:
• nicknames for Humphrey (not keen on humps!)
• full name for Rollo (Rowland has been suggested but husband hates it)
• upper class names similair to the above - ideally somethings that slightly unique but not too out there!

Rollo is a name and a lot nicer than Roland, Orlando is a nice idea though

Humphrey is too much like Humpty Dumpty

I feel like mumsnet has some serious double standards when everyone freaks out if someone says a name is chav or downmarket but then gets all on board for suggestions for upper class names!

I suspect the people who get exercised on other threads about “chav” names are the same ones getting exercised on this thread about upper class names. The rest of us happily accept that tastes differ and make suggestions accordingly

Mumofgirls2017 · 06/10/2022 06:32

You could have someting like Alexander as a middle and nn Hal? Bit of stretch maybe?!

Rollo could be short for Rowan Oliver or something in the same way.

I know a Roly (Roland) and a Humphrey and I think both names
are awful, as is pp’s suggestions of Hector (which I have taken the piss out of a friend for having as his middle name) and Lysander (which shortens to lice).

Btw the most upper class people I know (aristos) are William and Oliver.

Is Hector really that bad?Confused

Once he’s 50+ he’ll probably be able to pull it off but it sounds ridiculous on a young person yes (my friend is 28 and we’ve been friends for 10 years).

Mummysharkdoodoodoodoodoodoo · 06/10/2022 10:46

I know two Hectors, a little boy (probably about 6 years old) and a gorgeous little baby. I think it's an absolutely adorable name!

Dreikanter · 06/10/2022 10:51

Hector should have siblings called Zsazsa and Kiki and be fond of gardening.

Monty?
Not keen on the whole class thing though

If you like

Otto and Rollo then other O names, maybe Iolo?

Other posh unusual names I don’t think we’ve had yet

Florian
St John

ChakaKhanfan · 06/10/2022 11:24

Rollo and Humphrey just make me think of baby elephants, may as well go with Dumbo.

You want to sound upper class 🙄 couldn’t think of anything worse but not my circus, not my monkeys.

midsomermurderess · 06/10/2022 12:19

It must depend where you are in Britain. In Scotland, the name `Hector’ wouldn’t cause sniggering and piss taking. I think we are not so consumed with class and the manifest anxiety about it you see so commonly on here.

How about Orlando?

Lilacsunflowers · 06/10/2022 16:10

Orlando seems very Disney like to me.

KirstenBlest · 06/10/2022 16:15

@Lilacsunflowers , Lando is likely to have become a lot more popular.
Rupert the Bear, Ophelia (disney), Tabitha Twichett, ...

mathanxiety · 06/10/2022 16:35

Concern about class is incredibly parochial.

GlassDeli · 06/10/2022 16:48

I think the OP is long gone
