Jeffrey or Daniel

I really like Jeffrey, H wants Daniel

I don't partially like Daniel because of 'Danny boy' thing. Not great.

I love the meaning behind the name Jeffrey and think Jeff is a cool nickname whilst still being classic

Our other son is Vincent. DD is Athena. But they will be 18 and 22 years older than this baby Smile

Thank you :)

Wasn't there a Jeffrey in Rainbow? Awful name.

I don't have strong feelings either way for Daniel.

DramaAlpaca · 04/10/2022 00:32

I was going to say definitely Daniel - then I saw the sibling names.

It has to be Jeffery.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 04/10/2022 00:41

100% Daniel.
Jeffrey is awful. Reminds me of swearing. Effing and Jeffing

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 04/10/2022 00:44

As others have said Dahmer not a good time to use Jeffrey . Daniel is beautiful & a classic name .

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 04/10/2022 00:53

Jeffrey is dreadful even without the Dahmer/ Epstein/ Archer connotations. Daniel is nice, if a little dull.

RueValens · 04/10/2022 01:58

When

RueValens · 04/10/2022 01:59

*when it comes to Jeffrey, this scene in Get Him to The Greek is all I think about

Butterbeer4All · 04/10/2022 03:09

Daniel

ReeDeeHee · 04/10/2022 04:07

I knew a Geoffrey once who was a massive arsehole, so thats all I can think of!
Daniel is a lovely timeless name.

GlassDeli · 04/10/2022 04:08

Daniel is a timeless classic. I don't think Danny Boy will spring to mind for most people.

Jeffrey makes me think of the phrase 'What the Jeff'.

mathanxiety · 04/10/2022 05:14

Kit and Matthew are both wonderful names.

BearWoman · 04/10/2022 05:15

Daniel definitely.

Pemba · 04/10/2022 05:24

Well at least your partner has good taste. Daniel is a lovely name and what on Earth is wrong with the song 'Danny Boy'?

I don't think the world is ready for a Jeffrey revival yet, your typical Jeffrey must be in his sixties or seventies. What do you like about it?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/10/2022 09:42

I knew a Geoffrey once who was a massive arsehole, so thats all I can think of!

To be fair, I don't think the two are inextricably linked! It's not like the baby name books say "Geoffrey/Jeffrey, boy's name: meaning 'massive arsehole' Grin

LizzieBet14 · 04/10/2022 10:20

Daniel

Anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 04/10/2022 11:13

Unbelievable Jeff!

Daniel.

I quite like Danny Boy. A bit saccharine and sentimental but that's okay sometimes. Elvis does a lovely version.

Jeffrey is awwwwful.

MrsHadley · 04/10/2022 14:22

Daniel doesn't mean 'to judge' it means 'god is my judge'

Also no to Jeffrey. It's not the same as 'Thomas the tank' as Thomas the tank wasn't a renowned murderer.

You say 'Danny boy' isn't great but Jeffrey is far far worse when it comes to connotations!

Daniel / Danny is nice.

DontSuitAJumpsuit · 04/10/2022 14:31

I like Daniel - I have an Uncle Dan who is really cool. Dan is a great nickname.

I know a little Geoffrey who is about 18 months and every time I hear it I inwardly cringe a bit. It just seems wrong to my ears.

Baby isn't due until February

Feb isn't that far away! We had Amber on the top of our girls name list but then the Amber Heard trial ruined that name for us while I was pregnant. Baby is 5 months old now and I still see Amber Heard stuff everywhere so I'm glad we didn't use that name!!

LeandraDear · 04/10/2022 20:09

Jeffrey Dahmer - it's all over the place right now!

soulinablackberrypie · 06/10/2022 21:39

Are you a big fan of Jeffrey Daniel (of moonwalking fame)? ;-)

Seriously, I like both names but I think I like Daniel more. I've always preferred the Geoffrey spelling rather than Jeffrey, although I appreciate that it's very out of fashion nowadays. It's not just the various dodgy characters called Jeffrey, it's also the fact that some people spell it Jeffery (more common as a surname, I think) and I suspect he'd be constantly having to correct them. Daniel has the great advantage that there's really only one way to spell it. I don't think people automatically shorten it to Danny although they might use Dan unless you ask them not to.

I just think of Jeffrey Dahmer tbh. Daniel is much nicer.

Same

MooseBreath · 07/10/2022 11:04

Geoffrey was a contender for both DC. I prefer that spelling, but Jeffrey is nice as well!

urrrgh46 · 07/10/2022 11:10

Every Daniel I've ever known (I include my own brother) has been a bit of a twat and really arrogant.

On that basis go for Jeffery - those commenting about links with criminals etc - you can say that about any male name pretty much. Particularly those that are popular at some point.

Other suggestions:

Gordon
Dennis
Richard (wish I'd used this) "Richie" as a little kid "Rich" or full name as an adult.
Ronald
