Jeffrey or Daniel

I really like Jeffrey, H wants Daniel

I don't partially like Daniel because of 'Danny boy' thing. Not great.

I love the meaning behind the name Jeffrey and think Jeff is a cool nickname whilst still being classic

Our other son is Vincent. DD is Athena. But they will be 18 and 22 years older than this baby Smile

Thank you :)

I’m not usually one to comment on baby names as my kids have fairly unusual names, however you cannot be serious about Jeffrey as a name at a time where everyone seems to be traumatised from watching Dahmer on tv. Please dont!

Do you mean 'Please don't go?' Grin

No, in all seriousness though, it is surely too generic a name to be automatically connected with Dahmer?

Just as Thomas the Tank... I know loads of toms and Thomas. They were never in receipt of any 'oh like Thomas the tank engine?' Comments, even when it was ridiculously popular and probably No.1 on telly for little kids

Oh no sorry but Jeffery instantaneously takes me to Dahmer or Epstein!!

Daniel, whilst a classic is rather boring imho. I’m sure there are more names you could talk through with your other half as your other children have great names!!

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/10/2022 19:56

Daniel. Great name. Not overused.

Jeffrey is 75 and wears slippers. it’s too early for babies called Jeff, it’s still a comedy pet goldfish name. In 15 years it might revive. Back away for now. Even the idea of a baby called Jeff is making me laugh.

mathanxiety · 03/10/2022 20:01

It's not generic. It's very unusual these days for babies.

Dahmer is the first association that springs to mind for me.

ShaneTwane · 03/10/2022 20:02

Not jeffrey when the show about Dahmer is at its most popular.

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 03/10/2022 20:03

Ask your dc for advice. You sound hormonal suggesting Jeffrey!!

DD likes Kit (Christopher) or Matthew

It would be a mistake to call a child Jeffery when the Dahmer series is so popular. Evan Peters is tipped to win a Grammy for it as well so it will be discussed for a long time yet!

AJamEater · 03/10/2022 20:09

Jeffrey Epstein
Jeffrey Archer
Jeffrey Dahmer
Geoffrey Boycott
Geoffrey from Rainbow

Hmm

ffsnotagainandagain · 03/10/2022 20:09

Jeffrey?? Oh god no, it's not even a nice name if you forget Epstein or Dahmer

S25 · 03/10/2022 20:11

much better names!! Kit is a lovely modern nn for Christopher.
Christopher will always be a strong name and quite classic.

MATQs · 03/10/2022 20:11

Oh go for Jeffrey!!! I know a wonderful, cool, confident, kind 15 year old Jeffrey. He loves his name too.

Imissmoominmama · 03/10/2022 20:12

I know three dogs named Jeffrey!!

PeekAtYou · 03/10/2022 20:13

Daniel is much better but not as good as his brother's name.
Jeffrey is Starr, Dahmer... and Jeff is like Kevin and Gary imo

ivfbabymomma1 · 03/10/2022 20:13

Jeffery Epstein, Jeffery dahmer... it's a no from me! The name itself it's fine but not associated with those two!!!

jjeoreo · 03/10/2022 20:13

I LOVE Daniel, think its classic. Dan is a great nickname and I think the song Danny boy is beautiful. Oh, and Daniel by Elton John.

Not so keen of Jeffrey but don't have the same visceral responses to it that every else has on here.

Have you spoken to him about his name in the past couple of weeks?! I can't think of much worse than being a 15yo called Jeffrey at the moment

Pieceofpurplesky · 03/10/2022 20:16

Anyone under 20 will say 'my name's Jeff' even if they haven't seen the film. It was a meme.

Entstoryench · 03/10/2022 20:18

Christopher/Kit is gorgeous. One of my favourite boys names. I can't cope with Jeffrey. What about Joseph?

I love Alexander too: 'defender of men'.

tottielottie · 03/10/2022 20:18

Omg @threegoodthings that made me giggle 🤣!

Daniel is a beautiful, classic name. It evokes stoic and courageous for me!

BirmaBrite · 03/10/2022 20:26

I would probably use Rey as the shortened version if you choose Jeffrey.

AliBaliBears · 03/10/2022 20:37

I like Daniel/Danny/Dan. Only knew one growing up (now in his late 40s) and know of a couple of children with this name so for me it doesn't date to an era. I think Dan sounds like a good guy....

Whereas Jeffrey just seems really weak/wet. I've known three (all spelt Geoffrey and known as Geoff). One in his 40s, one 50s, one 60s. It's a dated name to me and not one that I can see making a comeback anytime soon.

I prefer Jeremy (Jem) and Timothy (Tim) to Jeffrey. But Daniel is still the best option.

RoachTheHorse · 03/10/2022 20:41

If Not Daniel at least spell it Geoffrey! That us an excellent name of brilliant men.

PurpleSuitcase · 03/10/2022 20:43

Just watched Dahmer. So I think on balance Daniel, which is a lovely name. (Also Jeffrey sounds like someone from the 1970s who wears tank tops and has a George Harrison moustache)
