Hello, just wanting to get some feedback on the following boy names for our second son. I love these names but they are pretty out there. What are your thoughts on:

Cub, Colt and Horizon (Rize nn)

Thank you!

Horizon I wouldn’t because it’s the name of a PlayStation Game.

I love Wolf. Or Wolfgang, it worked for Mozart.

Oh yes. Wolfie.
Mind, if you're composing concertos before you're 10 maybe the name doesn't matter so much.

Maireas - I can assure you teacher do!

RippleQueen · 07/08/2022 12:22

Yes Horizon is out there....in the distance where the land (or Ocean) meet.
Is this a joke thread?

Ellen123456 · 07/08/2022 12:22

Thanks for the feedback!

I think cub is really cute!

titchy · 07/08/2022 12:22

Horizon makes me think of Deep Water Horizon, the oil rig.

redbigbananafeet · 07/08/2022 12:22

Maireas - not in front of the child obviously but yes we do.

TheWrongAllmanBrother · 07/08/2022 12:23

I just think it’s …… really unkind to the child to saddle it with a complete inappropriate name-that’s-not-really-a-name for the rest of its life. Your choices are just too out there and like it or not the poor kid will be judged unkindly by others as a result. Not saying it should be of course, so but people are cruel.

Meant kindly, but I really think this is a decision where your personal tastes and whims might need to take a backseat. Each to his own of course but I think the feedback here is pretty unanimous.

Do you think fully grown men want a cute name?

Maireas · 07/08/2022 12:24

Coast
Mountain
Beach (mind you, that sounds too much like you Beeeach!)
Inlet
Reservoir (middle name Dog)

Ellen123456 · 07/08/2022 12:25

Those are great names! Thank you!!

Next time I'm seeking advice on the definition of unique, I'll come to you 😉

Or a dictionary

LazJaz · 07/08/2022 12:26

if you like Rize as a nick name (wouldn’t be something I’d choose, as it make me think of baking, and of something being “risible”) maybe something like “Orion” or “Rhidian” - these names a less common but they are still
names for humans.
if you want to continue the theme you’ve picked with your first son, which seems to be “the world, animal” then something like “Orion Wolf” etc.
Not my favourite personally, but he’s your son. I would just suggest that you remember that your baby will become a man, and he needs a name that will carry him through life, without closing too many doors on the way. People can be terribly judgmental.

Ellen123456 · 07/08/2022 12:27

Oh that's totally put me off it. Thank you for telling me!

To me, a nice name is a word that's a name, not a noun that means something else. As in you can't point to a Harry/Jasper/Anna - they're not things.. They're also not my favourite of names, it's just to make the point..
I'm guessing you're American? I think there's a real trend which started over there and is now making its way across of calling baby after nouns, particularly animals/parts of nature - - so Bear, Wolf, Rain, Ocean as you've picked yourself - they might be unique but I think they're part of this trend which will probably date or be associated with this point in time.. So in that regard I don't think they're all that unique which I know is what you're going for

Maireas - I can assure you teacher do!

Not where I've been teaching. Ever.
You'd be in deep trouble.
Like I say, it's not the 70s or even 80s any more.

Ellen123456 · 07/08/2022 12:27

Thank you ❤️

“ I'm not sold on Horizon. I just heard it today and initially I was shocked but warmed up to it”

I don’t think initially shocked but warmed to it is a good basis for choosing a child’s name.

Maireas · 07/08/2022 12:28

redbigbananafeet · 07/08/2022 12:22

Maireas - not in front of the child obviously but yes we do.

You'd not even do that at my place! Someone would report you and you'd be in deep s*

Ellen123456 · 07/08/2022 12:28

I appreciate you're feedback and of course will take that on board

TulipCat · 07/08/2022 12:29

The OP is already down the route of unusual (and yes, all you petty bitches pulling her up on semantics know exactly what I mean) nature names for her children. This is for a second child of similar ilk. I think Forest goes quite well with Ocean, or maybe a tree name like Acer?

Yesthatismychildsigh · 07/08/2022 12:29

Surely it would just be easier to sent the poor imaginary child out with a target on it’s back. 😂

Ellen123456 · 07/08/2022 12:29

Thanks so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it

Like I said, I've taught Forrest, River and Storm.
How about Sunny?

obsessedwithsleep · 07/08/2022 12:31

Take the piss is maybe a bit strong but we'd definitely laugh and I'm still teaching. Not in a mean spirited way particularly and certainly not to the child's face. Obviously people disavowing all knowledge are better people than me but when I taught a Beyonce, we laughed🤷‍♀️

I don't know why, probably because it's a noun and nothing like a name. I know cub and colt are nouns but Horizon just feels a bit...silly.
