Hello, just wanting to get some feedback on the following boy names for our second son. I love these names but they are pretty out there. What are your thoughts on:

Cub, Colt and Horizon (Rize nn)

Thank you!

Colt is a gun.

Cub is only cute on a small kid.

Horizon is the kind of name my colleagues and I take the piss out of (teachers).

I think people's interpretation of a unique name is different. In any case, I don't know where the "unique" came from because it wasn't in my original post. I just said the names were out there.

Potentially! I'm not sold on Horizon. I just heard it today and initially I was shocked but warmed up to it. Cub was a friend's suggestion, again not sold on because I don't know how well it would grow with a person. I do love Wolf. It's up there in my top names ☺️ thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for your feedback!

I really don't like that Colt is a gun so that's put me off. I'm glad I asked.

Cub - I think I agree, I don't think it will grow with a person which puts me off. Such a shame.

Horizon - may I ask why teachers would take the piss out of it? Is it just because it's a bit out there? Just after some genuine feedback ☺️

Thanks!

I think Colt is the best one, but in my accent it sounds like Cult.

Eranzer · 07/08/2022 12:11

What about Colby? Codie?
Colt is the least silly in my opinion, but still silly. Sorry x

Ellen123456 · 07/08/2022 12:11

Thank you! I don't like Cult and can see how it would be confused,

Nope ! Both our names are very unique

Yeah, sure!

Endlesslypatient82 · 07/08/2022 12:12

very unique

do you understand what “unique” means op?

it either is or isn’t. It can’t be “very”!

Ellen123456 · 07/08/2022 12:12

All good 😊 thanks for the feedback. I appreciate everyone's taste is different ☺️

I'd say unique are names outside the top 100-200 names. Each to their own though.

ypu are totally missing the word unique

you mean “less common”

Ellen123456 · 07/08/2022 12:14

Next time I'm seeking advice on the definition of unique, I'll come to you 😉

Bloody hell

It is hardly a difficult word op!

Endlesslypatient82 · 07/08/2022 12:16

But then to not think that “Cub” might be a name to grow with someone as they grow older says it all really 😂

It's either unique or it's not.
Do you mean unusual?

That is not how horizon is pronounced. Don't use an actual word and then mispronounce it. It's pretentious and embarrassing

Maireas · 07/08/2022 12:16

Brace yourself
the op doesn’t like being pulled up on a her misuse of the word!

It's in your thread title....

Unique means one. If there are only two people in the entire world with a particular name, that name is by definition not unique. It's rare.

Why not keep to a nature-inspired name with something like Forest or River?

No teachers would ever take the piss out of a child's name. Please be assured of that. We come across some fairly unusual ones. Anyone disagreeing was probably last in a school in about 1987.
Don't have that worry, but more think about the child as an adult.

What name can't be teased though at school? Literally kids will come up with anything negative so that doesn't put me off. I just don't want it to have a negative meaning.

I've just read your update. I hope you're joking. Imagine a joiner or lawyer called ocean. They'll be queued up to change it on the night of their 16th birthday.

ClutterofStarlings · 07/08/2022 12:19

Rizin makes me think someone saying raisin, with a really strong Australian accent. Not bad, but that’s what I hear.
colt I do think gun, and then I think long gangly legs.
cub is fine but I would assume was American if I met an adult man with that name.

It's literally in the title of your post.

GreyllGin · 07/08/2022 12:20

Horizon I wouldn’t because it’s the name of a PlayStation Game.

I love Wolf. Or Wolfgang, it worked for Mozart.

Maireas · 07/08/2022 12:21

How about
Forrest
River
Storm
I've taught kids with those names. They'd go with the Ocean lad as well.
