Micah pronounced me-kah

Myself and my husband have really been struggling with a boys name!

I'm due in about 5 weeks and we don't know what we're having (we already have a boy )

I am really loving the name Micah and when I read it I pronounce it 'me kah'

It has been the only name I haven't changed my mind about liking, the only thing making me question it is the way I want to spell & pronounce it

I know it can be pronounced mike-ah but I'm not keen on the pronunciation

I know I can technically pronounce it how I want , but has anyone heard of Micah pronounced Me -Kah

I've seen other spelling but I really like this spelling of it

It’s pronounced Mike-ah. There isn’t another pronunciation. Maybe you could use Mika instead.

I have never heard of another pronunciation than Mike-ah. There is the female singer Mica Paris, pronounced the way you want, or the male singer Mika? I think your child would have a lifetime of being called Mike-ah and having to correct people.

I've just been watching a programme, a girl was called Micah, pronounced Me kah.

I’d say the Finnish racing driver Mika Häkkinen is pretty famous, so most people would know how to pronounce it.

I'll have to echo other posters and say that unfortunately, you're conflating the spelling of one name with the pronunciation of another. Micah is mike-uh, always. I fear you'd be setting yourself and your son up for a lifetime of correcting people if you use this!

Mika (generally male, though I've known girls called this) gets you the sound you want, as does Meeka (female, I know one). I've also known a Marike/Marika (forget how she spelt it), which you might like for a girl?

If you really love it I think you’ll have to change the spelling, maybe Meka? Or Mekah

If you want Me-kah then you need to spell it Mika

Mika would be pronounced as you want it but I think looks feminine like the Dutch name Mieke

If you like the look of the spelling but want to pronounce it differently then your child will have a lifetime of
a) correcting peoples pronunciation of his name
b) getting birthday cards, presents, awards, certificates,personalised gifts, pictures from nursery etc etc spelled Mekah, or Mecah

My first thought was the racing driver. I pronounce it MeKah my dad pronounces it MickA.
It doesn't really matter because your child will correct people who pronounce it incorrectly.
Nobody had their life ruined by having to correct people who mispronounce their name.

I know several male Micah's all pronounced Mike ah. I know of a female called Maikah (same pronunciation). I would pronounce Mica, Meesha. I think Mika is safest bet.
