What do you all think of Kit as a name?

OP posts:

I really like it. As pp's have said maybe Christopher on bc to give him choices in later life if he wants them!

Brideandprejudice · 22/04/2022 16:41

My issue with this is that where I'm from, people would probably never pronounce the T. Then my child's name would be "kih" which I'd hate and probably very quickly get sick of correcting.

UnicornPooPoo · 22/04/2022 17:51

Don't like it. It's quite weak and a bit of a 'meh' name to me. Sounds a bit too much like Kate. Go with what you like though OP. Name choices are so personal, what I like you may absolutely despise.

carefullycourageous · 22/04/2022 17:55

Call them Christopher on the birth cert and then call them Kit all the time - this way they have the option later to adopt a more 'grown up' name if they wish.

BungleandGeorge · 22/04/2022 17:55

Very trendy but not a fan personally

Cuddlemuffin · 22/04/2022 17:56

I love it, I would also go for Christopher on birth certificate and Kit in RL. Just because it is quite nickname-y and wouldn't look professional as an adult so would give him the choice of name to use. I think it's a great name choice x

Minster2012 · 22/04/2022 19:15

Would have been our boys name if this bump was a boy, love it & DH is a christopher so love the link. I know a child Kit & an adult & it suits both

I love it. I know someone whose nickname is Kit but theyre called Quiterie (key tree) theyre french. such a pretty name.

Galwayg · 22/04/2022 21:22

I love it and wanted to choose it for our baby. I’m a teacher and in the staff room (while pregnant, having decided on Kit) someone brought up a child called Kit who goes to my school. One teacher then proceeded to question whether this was supposed to be a girls name and another questioned what the name was again then went on to say about ‘strange’ names. It totally put me off because I thought, I can hardly now announce in a few weeks that’s my child’s name when they’ll all remember having said that 🙈😂
I still love it and wouldn’t rule it out for another boy! I’d say go with it. You’re better to be original and have a few weird reactions like that than call him something that multiple other children in the class will be called

volezvoo · 22/04/2022 21:23

Reminds me of Wayne Rooney as one of his children is called Kit

Galwayg · 22/04/2022 21:24

The other thing I was unsure about was what to put on the birth certificate if we went for it. I really didn’t want to put Christopher when that wouldn’t even feature in my top 100 names so I didn’t see why I’d call my child it on paper just so they had a ‘proper’ name. If I was to go for it for a future boy I would go with Kit on the birth certificate

I think many parents may feel that way - they like Kit but dislike Chris/Christopher. Or vice versa?!

CareBearsCare · 22/04/2022 21:34

Just googled and Kit Harrington's full name is Christopher Catesby Harrington and names after Christopher Marlowe whose nickname was Kit.

ImInStealthMode · 22/04/2022 21:38

It's fine as a nickname but I don't like it as a whole name. Not much scope to alter it if DC grows up not to like it.

Nitgel · 22/04/2022 21:43

David Essex has a son called Kit, it's nice

Maybe the Kit referred to the Cat in Catesby?!

tearinghairout · 22/04/2022 22:45

I really like it. I also like Kim for a boy. But that's just me!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 23/04/2022 08:33

I like Kit and think it is now legitimised as an adult name not just a toddlers one.

I'm sure Kit Marlowe already thought so in the 16th century!

AlexanderTheGreat · 23/04/2022 16:50

Love it. I know a few. Makes me think of someone arty and interesting.

I read an interview with Kit Harrington where he said that he only found out his actual name was Christopher until he was 11. I found that very odd that it never came up in family chat! But then I read an interview with Maggie Gyllenhall where she stated that she only discovered that her official name was Margalit when she was 30! Hooooow did she not know?

Middle name Kat?

My DS is Kit, we really struggled naming him is was a choice between Rowen or Kit.

His nickname is Kit Kat, so far he has survived, I like short names that can't be altered but some how extending a name doesn't worry me personal taste is a funny thing 🤷‍♀️

theremustonlybeone · 23/04/2022 17:16

I love it. Was going to name my last DC Kit and wish I had stuck to it. Changed my mind weeks before he was born

Gettissuesgotissues · 23/04/2022 17:24

Great name for a robot 😂

wingsofabird · 24/04/2022 08:44

I adore the name Kit. Great choice
