I love it, but would like opinions.

If you don't like it, why not? Generally would like opinions ☺️

What are all these names about? Like Jaxon as opposed to Jackson (which is a surname anyway).
I might be old fashioned or maybe a bit judgemental but my god how can you consider calling your child that?
It's like calling your daughter Tudor

TatianaBis · 25/03/2022 19:59

What - Saxon as opposed to Sackson?

Tudor/ur is a very old Welsh name.

HomecomingKween · 25/03/2022 20:10

I'd wonder if you were a white supremacist or a fan of the deeply unfashionable band.

I generally like unusual or rarely used names.

Saxon is awful. Awful.

Instantly thought it to be the name of a child with parents who were ‘Greasers’ into shit rock.

lighterskies · 25/03/2022 20:16

Do you have strong Germanic heritage?

It is definitely better than Angle as a name.

TatianaBis · 25/03/2022 20:16

But not as good as Roman.

Chocoqueen · 25/03/2022 20:18

I mean it's not a name, but it is my 'if I had a boy and was cool enough to pull it off' name. Well it would be but I'm pretty sure DH would leave me, and from reading pp's responses about white supremacy I'm going off of it.

lunar1 · 25/03/2022 20:19

First thought is I would wonder if you we racist.

Maireas · 25/03/2022 20:24

Erik Bloodaxe
Harald Hardrada
Swein Forkbeard
Hereward the Wake
They would all go with any surname and yet still conjour up days of yore with shield walls, axe throwing and the wergild.
Go for it!

LizziesTwin · 25/03/2022 20:29

DC knows a Sachsen, v similar but presumably not as white supremacist?

TooManyPJs · 25/03/2022 21:52

It makes me think of sage and onion stuffing....

MostlyNormalSometimesOdd · 25/03/2022 22:27

I grew up in the 80s, for me, Saxon will forever be this band

Oh op, I hate these baby name threads when op states they love a name and genuinely want opinions, but wonder how you are feeling reading this! I remember offering up one name that got slated and I just couldn’t have used it. This is why not to tell folk what name you want imho, if it’s one you really love.

But I agree with other posters, not for me either. Like the x sound but not the relationship with Anglo-Saxon. Just associate those words negatively in terms of history and imperialism.

ArtVandalay · 25/03/2022 22:34

Terrible. Really bad.

WeasilyPleased · 25/03/2022 22:34

I'd imagine the parents were caught in an 80s glam rock time warp.

OverByYer · 25/03/2022 22:35

I was at Uni with a Saxon. He thought he was cool.

Sisisimone · 25/03/2022 22:59

🤣🤣

Blackmagicqueen · 25/03/2022 23:03

Sorry but it reminds me of a dogs name as historically there was one in our family!

Cindie943811A · 25/03/2022 23:48

I quite like it and don’t see why it necessarily denotes white supremacy— if you know much about the history of the you’ll know the association is very weak — today’s population’s DNA is very mixed.
Place names seem very popular so what about Saxony?

AledsiPad · 25/03/2022 23:55

I know of a small Saxon. Sometime called Sax. It always sounds like ‘Sex’ to me. Always.

This child would be saddled with it and spending their lives interacting with people who have varying degrees of knowledge about history. It will impact them and I doubt they want to spend their lives giving mini history lessons about white supremacy and its connection or lack thereof to the term 'Saxon'.
yefferson · 26/03/2022 00:26

Saxony aka Sachsen is the hotbed of the modern German far right party the AfD, so I personally wouldn't consider either a better option if trying to avoid the white supremacist connotations

BattledoreAndShuttlecock · 26/03/2022 00:30

Makes me think of the dog in Hot Fuzz or the evil Prime Minister in Dr Who.

Aethelstan is nice.

AuntTwacky · 26/03/2022 00:56

Nooooo

peaceinourtime · 26/03/2022 09:35

Nice but maybe also consider Saxby, its good too.
