Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?
I've narrowed my name list down to these.
I want something a little different to the top 20 names if possible.
Middle name would be Jean.
Which is your favourite in order please or what do you think?
Tysm for the help x

@NameChanger45465465

Can you give her a nicer middle name.

I think its pretty horrible for a child to be called Apricot and her only fall back is jean !

Middle name is my nans name

@Barrawarra

I feel sorry for you OP, it looks like you really didn’t expect this reception to these names. Personally I love Jean and feel that’s a bit ‘different’ at the moment but I hear you feel it’s plain. I think these threads can be hard as there are all kinds of names people find ridiculous and this feels like a bit of a pile on. But equally I understand the reactions, they aren’t to my taste either. I do like Meadow though!
Thank you for being nice to me, yes I really wasn't expecting some of the comments although lots of people have been lovely too x

As the world becomes increasingly global I think it’s wise to steer away from nouns.

It seems to create confusion amongst those who speak English as a second language and cause offence to the name holder/giver.

What’s her name?

Prairie

What like an open expanse of land?

Erm no…it’s…

Or like the dog?!

I like Ember but not the others, I like similar names but these are a bit to ‘out there’ even for me, I don’t think I could name a child after a fruit. Venus is ok ish, I almost called dd Phoenix but dh (now ex) convinced me to give her a boring name, she now jokes about it and says she wishes she had been called Phoenix 🤣. I like names related to plants such as Sorrel, Sable and Sage but not keen on fruit names.

forestlovr · 11/03/2022 12:41

They're all really lovely, I love Ember and Story!

anothernamedoesntsmellsosweet · 11/03/2022 12:42

I know a girl called cherry. She is horrible. Made me hate the name, sorry! I also know 2 peach's they aren't nice either!

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 11/03/2022 12:42

Well my immediate reaction was Woah!! To all of those, however, on second reading I think Ember Jean is surprisingly lovely. And lovely to name for your Nan too.

They're all awful, please don't lumber a child with a name like these.

Those are not better they're all awful ... Gail?? It's a baby not a 70 year old woman.
Dresslover1950s · 11/03/2022 12:46

I like them all

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 11/03/2022 12:46

None of them are nice. Just why?

Motherdare · 11/03/2022 12:47

As an adult, I truly would cringe to have to introduce myself as any of those names. Don’t saddle a child with your attempts to be different.

RampantIvy · 11/03/2022 12:47

In the nicest possible way, as someone who has been laughed at and embarrassed by my name my whole life, please don't pick any of these

Ditto, for the same reasons. As a result I gave DD a name that people had heard of and that they could spell without help.

As the world becomes increasingly global I think it’s wise to steer away from nouns. It seems to create confusion amongst those who speak English as a second language and cause offence to the name holder/giver

That is an excellent point. Also, they might have different meanings in other languages. Remember the Vauxhall Nova? No va means doesn‘t go in Spanish

antisocialsocialclub · 11/03/2022 12:49

@Spaghetti0h

Of course I don't want my child to get bullied ... I've never known anyone with these names so hadn't thought of it that way. Thank you to the people who've been nice x
Sometimes there’s a reason for that, sorry OP Blush
oakleaffy · 11/03/2022 12:50

Out of all these Venus sounds the best of a bad lot, but even Venus sounds like a cat's name.

Story sounds like a building , even though it's spelled differently,
Ember is like a dog's name, and will be likely be called ''Amber'' by everyone else.

tara66 · 11/03/2022 12:50

If you call her Ember people will ask ''Did you say - Amber?'' ALL the time!!

TatianaBis · 11/03/2022 12:50

@Spaghetti0h

Ok I loved Story because in the past I knew the most amazing Nigerian girl called Story ... I'm in a big multicultural city in the UK, no my daughter won't attend private school, but are all my choices really so out there to most young people my age?
No, not particularly.

It's just that a lot of MN is very conservative and insular. Even European names are considered 'pretentious' and out there.

Stravaig · 11/03/2022 12:51

Those sound like you're naming a doll or a puppy instead of an actual human being who will be a grown up for most of their life.

McScreamysGhostPants · 11/03/2022 12:51

If I could only choose from those for names and has absolutely no other option I would go for Ember Jean. But the reality are there are MANY options that are better.

Sasha Jean
Remiah Jean
Ramira Jean
Saskia Jean
Amalthea Jean
Gwendolyn Jean
Persephone Jean
Seren Jean
Odette Jean
Estelle jean

Millions and millions of others too

mam0918 · 11/03/2022 12:51

Ember is pretty and I like it, a more modern twist on Amber. Clearly a winner.

Venus is not my taste (just think men are from mars etc...) but it's usable.

Story is very 'hippy' and try hard to me (like Lyric, Snow, Sonnet, Stormy, Dream, and all the other suddenly popular 'influencer' baby names).

Apricot is fucking stupid, please don't use this on a human who will grow up and have to live a normal life.
