Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?
I've narrowed my name list down to these.
I want something a little different to the top 20 names if possible.
Middle name would be Jean.
Which is your favourite in order please or what do you think?
Tysm for the help x

Venus is the only one on the list that sounds like a name (Venus Williams).

I understand the desire to be different but I honestly think it would be cruel to saddle a child with the other three. Maybe use as a middle name? Their school days will be a nightmare and they’ll get so fed up having to repeat and explain their name. If you do use one it might be a good idea to have them a more conventional middle name that they can choose to use instead when they’re older.

I know a little girl called Nancy-Jean, which I totally love!

fruitbrewhaha · 11/03/2022 13:06

If you like the name go for it.

The thing with names it not everyone likes the same ones. If you want something not run of the mill, then it's likely not many people will like it, if you are after something really unusual then even more so.

Rockmehardplace · 11/03/2022 13:06

Pmsl at the Labrador puppy strippers!

Venus is ok but I think you would have to be a certain kind of person to carry it off.
Story is not a name.
Ember I just mishear as Amber or Em-bear
Apricot is ridiculous,
Cherry is ok, but I would worry about the “pop her Cherry” connotations in high school. Also a bit stripperish.

What about:
Ebony
Naomi
Anneliese
Lorelei
Laurel
Fern

oakleaffy · 11/03/2022 13:07

@Spaghetti0h

I quite like Cherry too
Not Cherry!!!!

''Can I pop your Cherry''
This was said to a Cherry hence wincing at that name.

CantStartaFireWithoutaSpark · 11/03/2022 13:07

None, sorry.

ComeUnderMySexBlanket · 11/03/2022 13:07

OP, someone about four pages ago said it was pregnancy hormones talking, and I think that's right (I was desperate to call one of my DC Looby and was, fortunately, talked out of it).

I like the idea of something Korean, but Cherry is also ok (or Merry, if you like that kind of thing?) Jean is a nice middle name, esp. with the family connection.

Purpleavocado · 11/03/2022 13:07

I can understand you want to have something different, but why not make up a name rather than use a name that means something else in that case? I'm sure you could come up with something nice and that isn't associated with something else.
I do have a soft spot for Cadence and Laurel as 'thing' names.

pickingdaisies · 11/03/2022 13:07

Not keen on any of them, but love Jean.

SoonbeSpringtime · 11/03/2022 13:07

Nickname background, Plum Sykes is actually named Victoria.

JustLyra · 11/03/2022 13:08

No but Clementine is a name & no one blinks at that

That’s because the fruit was named after a person, not the other way round.

Moodycow78 · 11/03/2022 13:08

They're all awful.

viques · 11/03/2022 13:08

@CoffeeBeansGalore

Ember is pretty.
Ember sounds as though you misheard the name of your Australian aunt who you are naming her for in the hopes that aunty leaves you the rights to her amber mine........
TenoringBehind · 11/03/2022 13:09

Fwiw, I know a male Ember. He uses his initials as his name rather than the name: EB rather than Ember Brian (*it’s not actually Brian).

notacooldad · 11/03/2022 13:09

Maybe I should just call my daughter a Korean name & keep one of these for a nickname?
What is it about Mn and nicknames*🤷‍♀️
I've been working with children and young young people for over 35 years and have only known a few kids whose first name isn't there every day name, sure maybe , a shortened version Emma to Em or something but not a completely different name.
Why not just pick a reasonable name that can see a child from cradle to grave?
I get there will be exceptions from time to time but mn seems crazy about nicknames.🤣

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 11/03/2022 13:09

Ember is the only one that's nice imo. Sorry. And I don't think it goes with Jean.

BinkyBonky · 11/03/2022 13:09

Ember Jean sounds pretty.

FayCarew · 11/03/2022 13:10

Venus - fine if you are a world class beautiful tennis player but otherwise a lot to live up to
Story - as in likely story or story telling?
Ember - a small piece glowing in a dying fire?
Apricot - Ape for short?

BellatrixOnABadDay · 11/03/2022 13:10

I know there's obviously Venus Williams but all I've got in my head now is Bananarama.

MayBMaybenot · 11/03/2022 13:11

For goodness sake OP .... please don't do this to your child!! None of them!! ..... they will all leave the poor thing open to all sorts of issues going forward.

Chipperfish · 11/03/2022 13:11

Not Apricot - thats not unique enough, and you would get all the pronunciation ay- pricot or ah pricot issues
So Kumquat. Or Yuzu. Or Chermioya

Marvellousmadness · 11/03/2022 13:11

Hahaha I'm dyingGrin those are the worst names ever. Good stirring up thread though

Heronwatcher · 11/03/2022 13:11

Well I think they’re all lovely. Have you considered Gillette, Fabrication, Kindling and Persimmon for siblings?

Chipperfish · 11/03/2022 13:11

Cherimoya

Echobelly · 11/03/2022 13:11

I quite like Story, but Ember Jean has a nice ring to it together, although I agree everyone with think it's Amber, so maybe Story is the best of lot.

Would never get taken seriously by kids or adults as Apricot, I'm afraid, and Venus is.... well, let's say it's putting rather a lot on a girl to be named after the eternally beautiful Goddess of Love!
