Seriously struggling with name for dd2

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 23/02/2022 09:10

We have one dd and she has a Scottish name, unusual- only 20 born in her year or something.

We’re really, really struggling with a name for baby girl number 2. The only name we can both agree on is Charlotte with Lottie as a nickname. I love the nickname Lottie but I can’t help feeling that Charlotte is slightly dull? And that Lottie won’t transfer to adulthood very well. Especially when her sister has a more unusual, strong name.

I must have looked at every single name out there by this point yet I still haven’t found something that feels right or that we both agree on. This is our list so far (although there are a couple on here that dh isn’t keen on!) Dh seems to prefer very classic/90’s names like Emma and Sophie;

Maisie
Lara
Leah
Emily
Imogen
Penny (Penelope)
Charlotte (Lottie)
Lucia - this was a front runner for a while but we’re worried about pronounciation/having to explain it to people
Lois
Erin
Elise
Lucy
Juliette (Ettie)
Indigo (indie)

Someone please help!

Your parents don't get a say!

violetmonster · 23/02/2022 17:38

Can I ask you first daughters name? I love Scottish names as I have one myself

CaffiSaliMali · 23/02/2022 21:04

I was going to say Juliette as it's a bit more unusual to go with your DD1s name. I can see why you're erring given your ex's DD. You could use the Juliet spelling to distinguish the two a bit?

Morven is fabulous though. I love it but am sadly not Scottish, alas.

What about Eilidh, Ishbel, Elspeth or Catriona?

If you like Lucia, what about Lucinda?

Larissa? Marisa? Cassandra/Cassia?

Elowen instead if Elodie?

Enko · 23/02/2022 21:06

Lucia is so pretty and people get used to how to pronounce names quickly.

I personally think Charlotte/lottie is kinda dull and I wouldn't do it if DD1 has a more unusual name

Moonface123 · 23/02/2022 21:17

Esme
Rosa
Nemisha

I think our favourites are now Lucia and Juliette! I’ve really gone off Charlotte as lots of people have summed up how I was feeling in that it’s a lovely name but it doesn’t feel right with dd1’s name.

@CaffiSaliMali I double checked and ex has in fact named his dd Julia which makes it seem much less strange! I love Morven and Lucinda but as usual dh isn’t keen (such a spoilsport! Grin)

It’s Ailsa @violetmonster

Wren?

Ikeameatballs · 23/02/2022 21:55

I like Leah from your original list but if you are looking for a sister for Ailsa I like:

Ishbel
Wren
Robyn
Callie
Nell nn for Eleanor
Norah
Fiona
Ruth
Harriet nn Hattie
Agnes
Maude
Mirren

BlueFlavour · 23/02/2022 22:01

I really like Lucia. Such a beautiful elegant name.
Goes well with Ailsa too.
What about Iona?

Mine's a spoilsport too!

Am glad ex's DD is Julia rather than Juliet. I think Ailsa (fab name by the way) goes really well with Juliette.

Lucia also goes really well too.

RupertOscar1999 · 23/02/2022 22:05

I love Juliette! What about Lydia Smile

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 23/02/2022 22:15

@BlueFlavour thanks- I have thought about Iona and it’s a lovely name but I don’t think it works with our surname.

Thanks @Ikeameatballs - I like Callie. Dh also really liked Leah!

@RupertOscar1999 Lydia is such a gorgeous name but I can’t disassociate it from an awful Lydia I once knew unfortunately!!

I love Lois from your original list. So underused and strong. Callie is great too.
