Seriously struggling with name for dd2

We have one dd and she has a Scottish name, unusual- only 20 born in her year or something.

We’re really, really struggling with a name for baby girl number 2. The only name we can both agree on is Charlotte with Lottie as a nickname. I love the nickname Lottie but I can’t help feeling that Charlotte is slightly dull? And that Lottie won’t transfer to adulthood very well. Especially when her sister has a more unusual, strong name.

I must have looked at every single name out there by this point yet I still haven’t found something that feels right or that we both agree on. This is our list so far (although there are a couple on here that dh isn’t keen on!) Dh seems to prefer very classic/90’s names like Emma and Sophie;

Maisie
Lara
Leah
Emily
Imogen
Penny (Penelope)
Charlotte (Lottie)
Lucia - this was a front runner for a while but we’re worried about pronounciation/having to explain it to people
Lois
Erin
Elise
Lucy
Juliette (Ettie)
Indigo (indie)

Charlotte is ok - if she didn't like Lottie she could simply use the full name, it's also only 2 syllables, or she might prefer Charlie.

Alexis/Alexandra - Lexie
Louisa (because you like Lucia)
Clara (because you like Lara)

I really like Juliette and Lucy from your list. I'm not personally a fan of Charlotte but there's nothing wrong with it, it's a perfectly nice name.

@Lamont77 dh did suggest the name Lexie the other day! But I think Lexie sounds awful in some of our closest family/friends accent (think thick Yorkshire).

I think I’ll keep Charlotte on the list, just having a wobble as I’m not necessarily in love with the name.

What do people think about Odette or Yvette with Ettie as a nickname potentially?

@RavenclawsRoar I like the name Lucy, but felt similarly to Charlotte in that it feels a bit dull to me.

I love the name Juliette but was worried it felt a bit too old fashioned/middle aged.

Carlotta might be a possibility - although it does maybe make me think of a man called Carl in drag Grin

I do agree that Charlotte is a bit meh if DD1 has a strong unusual name.

I like all the longer names that get you the Ettie nn (although Henrietta is my favourite for that - v marmite tho I appreciate!)

From your list I like Lara and Imogen best.

Hard to make suggestions that might be equivalent without knowing the other name, but if you were looking for another Scottish name I really like Iona.

Don't worry too much about the nickname - if you pick Ettie, she will probably be Eve etc.
Also she will become her name quite quickly, and then it will be right.
I like Clara, Lucy and Sophie BTW.

I saw a lady post on a Facebook group the other day who had girls called Edie and Wren. I thought they were both lovely and Edie is Scottish too isn't it? I'm probably wrong Grin

My dd1 has an unusual Scottish name too, curious to know if its the same 😊 found it difficult to chose our next dds name. We went for another Scottish name. If you are keen for another one I love

Juliette is lovely (slightly prefer the less frilly prefer Juliet) and not middle aged at all.

@MerylSqueak dh wasn’t mad keen on Juliette so I’ll have to check in with him again on that one. My ex has also called his baby Juliette 😬 (god this thread is outing!) and I can’t decide if it would be weird of me to name my dd the same name! (Our mums are still friends/in touch)

I think Odette is a LOVELY and unusual name OP and much better than Charlotte, Lucy or Carlotta. It's all very personal to how things sound isn't it?

I love Yvette. There was one in my school and I adored her just because of her name! It fits nicely with the Eve style names and the Ette style names while being underused. That gets my vote!
