Seriously struggling with name for dd2

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 23/02/2022 09:10

We have one dd and she has a Scottish name, unusual- only 20 born in her year or something.

We’re really, really struggling with a name for baby girl number 2. The only name we can both agree on is Charlotte with Lottie as a nickname. I love the nickname Lottie but I can’t help feeling that Charlotte is slightly dull? And that Lottie won’t transfer to adulthood very well. Especially when her sister has a more unusual, strong name.

I must have looked at every single name out there by this point yet I still haven’t found something that feels right or that we both agree on. This is our list so far (although there are a couple on here that dh isn’t keen on!) Dh seems to prefer very classic/90’s names like Emma and Sophie;

Maisie
Lara
Leah
Emily
Imogen
Penny (Penelope)
Charlotte (Lottie)
Lucia - this was a front runner for a while but we’re worried about pronounciation/having to explain it to people
Lois
Erin
Elise
Lucy
Juliette (Ettie)
Indigo (indie)

Someone please help!

Unusual names if people I knew as kids and now as adults that you may like

Ophelia
Lynette
Yolande

Hummingbirdcake · 23/02/2022 10:05

Also prefer the Juliet spelling but it’s a lovely name.

ShadowPuppets · 23/02/2022 10:08

I love Odette, it’s DD’s middle name and was my grandmothers name. Would have been her first name if it didn’t clash with our surname!

Uttoxerly · 23/02/2022 10:27

Carla
Maeve
Niamh
Lyra
Ruby
Elin
Dinah
Robyn

fishfingersand · 23/02/2022 11:39

Could you go for a Scottish name for DD2 as well?

Eg
Iona
Mirin
Isla
Mairi
Ailsa
Isobel
Caitriona

Fabuleuse · 23/02/2022 13:09

What about Elspeth or Catriona? I love Juliette although I think it's nicer spelled Juliet.

Allsorts1 · 23/02/2022 13:12

We have a very accomplished senior Lottie at our work, so it does work for adults!

emmathedilemma · 23/02/2022 13:43

They're mostly really nice names but I just wonder if they're a bit "normal" if your other daughter has an unusual Scottish name. Is there a Scottish connection in the family or was that just a random choice?

nutellingyou · 23/02/2022 13:47

Of your list I really like Penelope - it has the best nn opportunities too.

Nell
Nellie
Poppy
Penny
Nella
???

KylieCharlene · 23/02/2022 13:56

Loving the Carlotta suggestion.
Apart from this I prefer Charlotte.
I think Lottie works well for an older woman too. It's not a super cutesy name.

Anoooshka · 23/02/2022 13:56

Odette is lovely. And Imogen is a very strong name.

FlamingoDust · 23/02/2022 14:07

I definitely think if dd1 is unusual then Charlotte will seem very boring in comparison and as they grow one of the girls will feel like either their name is too out there (I'm sure it's nota and both my girls have less common names) or 'boring'

sweetbellyhigh · 23/02/2022 14:10

Nothing wrong with Lottie on an adult.

For the live off god why is it people think you suddenly have to have a name out of an accountancy firm once you turn 18. It is not borne out in any reality.

RosesAndHellebores · 23/02/2022 14:13

Catriona
Davina/Davida

CoffeeBeansGalore · 23/02/2022 14:13

On the Scottish theme:

Morven

Josephine? Josie for short.
Charlotte also good with Lottie for short - if she doesn't like it she can use the full name.

Shainago · 23/02/2022 17:22

I love Elise
Not a fan of Odette ot Yvette though

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 23/02/2022 17:31

Thank you for all of the suggestions - there are a lot of names in there that I hadn’t actually yet come across/considered!

@emmathedilemma my mum is Scottish and my parents live together in Scotland, not far from my mums family.

@DogsAndGin I’ve always absolutely loved Elodie but my dh hates it and I know my parents aren’t keen either (I tried with dd1!)

Vroom5 · 23/02/2022 17:33

What about Cora?

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 23/02/2022 17:33

@CoffeeBeansGalore these are some great suggestions - I love Morven

Thanks @Allsorts1

I agree with you @sweetbellyhigh - I actually know a lovely, very accomplished adult Lottie. It’s just something people seem to go on about!
