My baby boy is due in the summer I’d love to know people opinions on the name Solomon. I love it, but I’m worried it’s seen as stuffy/an old man’s name… What, if anything, do you associate with the name? Also love the nn’s- Sol is so cute!

Do you know where the name comes from?

Chasingthewind11 · 19/02/2022 21:18

@Tsuni Yes it’s Biblical, God gave King Solomon great wisdom, and he wrote a couple of books of the Bible

I think it's a lovely strong name.

RupertOscar1999 · 19/02/2022 21:23

If you like it go for it! I'm not keen on it, it reminds me of Stacey Solomon.

MartinMartinMarti · 19/02/2022 21:28

I’ve always loved Suliaman, it spins so poetic.

Trickier to use if you don’t have the right background I guess, so Solomon is an excellent alternative!

AKASammyScrounge · 19/02/2022 21:30

Elderly man is what it makes me think of

Barrawarra · 19/02/2022 21:31

I like it, and agree on Sol Smile

Classica · 19/02/2022 21:32

Love it. Sounds solid and wise.

pencilsdance · 19/02/2022 21:32

Makes me think of an old man with a long beard.
Sol as a non is nice

1000yellowdaisies · 19/02/2022 21:33

LOVO Solomon! Yes it is an old name, but so are Jacob, Isaac, Matthew etc just Solomon is more striking and unusual. My son has a unusual biblical name and people raved about it when he was born:)

OutsideVoice · 19/02/2022 21:33

I love it!

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2022 21:35

I like Sol, but don't like Solomon at all. I'd assume you were very religious.

OrangeSamphire · 19/02/2022 21:38

It sounds too much like ‘solemn’ to be a name I’d go for. I know one Solomon. In a family where every child has quite a serious biblical name. Evangelical Christians so makes sense.

Daisywithastory · 19/02/2022 21:45

One of my favourite people in this world has that name (spelt differently) and usually goes by Sol. I’ve known him since he was a teenager and he’s now well into his twenties and it’s never occurred to me that it’s an old man name.

Classica · 19/02/2022 21:46

Not along ago Noah and Isaac sounded like serious biblical names. Now they're just names you hear shouted across playgrounds.

NameChange30 · 19/02/2022 21:47

I like it but prefer Saul

wishing3 · 19/02/2022 21:47

I like it!

Classica · 19/02/2022 21:48

Saul is cool too.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/02/2022 21:49

I really like it, nice history and Sol is a good nn.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 19/02/2022 21:50

Good name.

resm · 19/02/2022 21:51

It’s a family name on my mum’s side so I have a fair few uncles & cousins with this name (currently ranging from 2 - 70yrs). They all go by Sol though which I think suits all ages, not just an elderly man. Sol is bright and sunny to me, perfect for a little toddler and cool for a teenager.

Enko · 19/02/2022 21:54

I like it and I know a 16 year old called it and he really suits it.

idiotmagnet · 19/02/2022 21:55

Love it. Sol is great for short too

Chasingthewind11 · 19/02/2022 22:09

Thanks so much everyone it’s so helpful to get a range of opinions. Seems like the response is positive on the whole! @Classica You’re so right about the name Noah being an ‘old man’ name a few years ago!

Love it - not old mannish at all imo , and Sol is a great diminutive.
