My baby boy is due in the summer I’d love to know people opinions on the name Solomon. I love it, but I’m worried it’s seen as stuffy/an old man’s name… What, if anything, do you associate with the name? Also love the nn’s- Sol is so cute!

I don’t mind the name....but it’s making a comeback where I am in NW....I know a 2 year old and an 8 day old Soloman.....so if you looking for something more unique it’s probably not the right name

BikiniB0tt0m · 20/02/2022 23:28

I like it and would use Sol for short. I loved the name Titus many years ago but chickened out with my first son because I though they would get called 'Tit' for short Grin

Love it!

Hmm

In 2020, the name Solomon was ranked 390th in England and Wales, with a grand total of 109 baby boys.

Just because you know two of them, it hardly means the OP should avoid it because it's too popular.

Chasingthewind11 · 21/02/2022 13:40

@NameChange30 @Kitkat151 I quite like that it's becoming less obscure while still fairly uncommon. My first sons name was only given to 3 boys in the uk the year we named him and I sometimes wish he could meet someone with his name!

I know a Sol (not short for Solomon) and its a great name for him.

Firebird83 · 22/02/2022 23:35

Lovely, underused name.

scornrufibarbis · 22/02/2022 23:43

Lovely name

I know a range of Solomons from old men to babies. It’s fairly popular in the Jewish community. Lovely meaning behind it and traditional without being too old man

Zillamop · 23/02/2022 07:06

I like it

Twattergy · 23/02/2022 07:10

It's great. It's my sons middle name - it would have been his first name down to me but DH vetoed it!

mellongoose · 23/02/2022 07:31

I like it.

@FiftyStoriesHigh

Makes me think of pulling a baby in half.
But the whole point of the story was the they didn’t do this because Solomon was able to ascertain the true mother.

Lovely name. I also love Micah.

@FiftyStoriesHigh

Makes me think of pulling a baby in half.
In fairness, it didn’t actually happen. 😀

I like it up. Wise old man, but in a good way, and ripe for reclamation.

Chasingthewind11 · 23/02/2022 09:51

@Twattergy what did you go for for your sons first name if you don't mind me asking? I'm also considering it as a middle name

I absolutely love the name Solomon. A friend of mine has a Solomon, otherwise it would be on my list - I think it's gorgeous. Combination of classic and unusual - you don't get many names like that.

underneaththeash · 23/02/2022 10:00

Only if he's born on a Monday...

TheGratefulBread · 23/02/2022 10:04

I love Solomon. It's definitely more common within the Jewish community, because I have known several, three of them rabbis. In fact my childhood rabbi, who conducted my Bat Mitzvah, was Rabbi Solomon (Z"L).

I love Solly as a short form.

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/02/2022 10:08

I know a Solomon, or Sol now he's older. Lovely name!

Baconking · 23/02/2022 10:12

I know an 8 year old Solomon.

I don't think of an old man name at all
