One of those names which is not very common but lovely. I know a 60yr old and a 10 yr old with that name!

vastgrandupgrade · 23/01/2022 21:39

I’ve always liked it

My 7 year old is called Lydia. The only one in her school. I obviously think it’s a beautiful name. Historically it’s in the bible, so a lovely classical name. I have read about how people will rhyme it with chlamydia … but seriously I laugh at this. You could literally say this about so many other names as they too will rhyme with something that you might not like!! She gets called Lydi by her friends which I also love … plus she adores her name x

I think people that rhyme unpleasant things with names to be complete morons. I have a name that was completely mocked when I was younger. I remember when I met my now husband he asked my name and when I told him I actually said it was a terrible name. He smiled and told me I had a lovely name. I started travelling and people in other countries started admiring my name. I realised I had been brain washed into disliking my name my completely immature morons.

I actually thought about Lydia at one stage for my daughter but it didn't go right with her surname. Your daughter is right to love her name as it is lovely.

I always think of the below song for people like you that think it's funny to come up with idiotic stuff like that.

My all time favourite girl's name. Beautiful, classy and elegant. What's not to love!

delshell · 23/03/2022 06:39

Lovely name. I wanted it on our shortlist but DH vetoed it.
@Skeumorph...but Lydie is fine as a short form?
Thing with shortening names is it's just what comes naturally to the people shortening it. You don't get to pick what her peers will call her for short, nor what you do really. I love my daughter's name, but often she gets called "Marls" which is cute but not what I expected to call her for short at all.

WildCherryBlossom · 23/03/2022 11:01

I think it's very pretty and quite underused. I only know 2: one in her twenties and one primary school age.

My name is Lydia! I love my name, I have never been called Chlamidiya Grin and I was the only Lydia at my school so definitely wouldn't say it's the same line as Emma, Sarah ect as they are such common names. I do get called ' Lyd, Lyds, Lyddie, and that doesn't bother me at all, I like being called 'Lyd' Smile it's a great name xx
