For a boy... thoughts? There were 5 in 2020. I like it, but I'm not sure where you'd go with it nickname wise?

I think I like it. If not, how about Florian?

Blubells · 05/01/2022 12:59

I like Aurelian.

@Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow

Really? A million Aurelias? I have never met an Aurelia and have worked in education for 15 years
It's climbing like crazy in the name charts! I bet in a decade there will be.
Luredbyapomegranate · 05/01/2022 21:07

I think Aurelio is a lot nicer

Leo as a nn?

I can't not hear the 'alien' part and it puts me off. Or-Alien

Tessa08 · 06/01/2022 08:43

Love it!

My boy is named Aurel - very happy with it Smile

I studied Latin and Greek at school and university; Aurelian is definitely a Roman name, usually pronounced Aww-ree-lee-an. Emperor Aurelian is not to be confused with Emperor Marcus Aurelius, two different people. I prefer Aurelius personally. If you use either, be prepared for people to expect that you are a particular fan and ask you about the emperor (eg Marcus Aurelius very famous for his philosophical writings).

Basically Aurelia and Aurora have become a bit popular for babies in the last few years, so you won't know any right now but there might be a fair few start reception in a couple of years time.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 16/01/2022 23:39

Is aurelia not the word for the edge of nipples?

SwimmingOnEggshells · 16/01/2022 23:41

It's areola, way to similar imo

Kanaloa · 17/01/2022 02:24

Yeah I was about to say that’s aerola! I’d also be worried with names like Aurel about the obvious connection to the word oral.

Obviously kids will pick on another kid for any reason though. I remember a movie where a boy named Jason Banks was nicknamed ‘jizz and wanks’ by bullies. So a good looking, charismatic, confident Aurelian would probably be fine. Personally I prefer plainer, more versatile names though.

Kanaloa · 17/01/2022 02:27

What I meant was, if a child is confident etc he probably won’t be bullied regardless, whereas if he’s shy or whatever bullies will even pick on a name like Jason.

But for me personally I prefer a more versatile name that is wearable for any type of person from baby to adult.

mathanxiety · 17/01/2022 02:32

Nice Romanian name.

backtolifebacktoreality · 17/01/2022 03:49

Sounds a bit tacky and pretentious

KiloWhat · 17/01/2022 08:17

It sounds a bit like something from star trek. I like it though.

Laureatus · 17/01/2022 10:01

I've met a few Aurelias in their 30's, from Germany. I also know a German Cornelia. Classical girls names seem to have been popular there for some time. The two female characters in my first Latin textbook were called Cornelia and Aurelia. There's also the character in Love Actually with the name (Colin Firth's love interest). It's usually pronounced Ow-ree-lee-ya or Ow-ray-lee-ya, unlike areola which is pronounced a-ree-oh-la.
