For a boy... thoughts? There were 5 in 2020. I like it, but I'm not sure where you'd go with it nickname wise?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
KirstenBlest · 04/01/2022 19:24

Laurie?

It's the name of a roman emperor.

Warmduscher · 04/01/2022 19:26

Laurie is the nickname for Laurence.

Aurelian sounds like an adjective to me, sorry.

scottishnames · 04/01/2022 20:24

Perfectly OK name. If I remember correctly, name of son of Carla Bruni, who later married controverial French president Sarkozy.

Names don't have to have surbanes.

Alfixn · 04/01/2022 20:25

Oh. I've never heard of an Aurelian but I really like it!

Berrybear · 04/01/2022 20:26

It sounds like the name of a double glazing company to me. Sorry.

KeyErro · 04/01/2022 20:27

I like it.
Ian for short? Wink

Just looked her up on Wikipedia - her son is Aurélien, which is French and would be pronounced completely differently.

What’s a surbane?

I'm smiling at the thought of choosing a name like Aurelian and calling him Ian for short.

I don't know how to pronounce it. Is it Or-REL-ian? Aurel-EE-an?

Frazzled2207 · 04/01/2022 20:33

I think Aurelien is French.
Aurelian would be an anglicisation, not keen.

gemininova · 04/01/2022 20:35

Don't love it and there will be about a million Aurelia's at school with him!

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 04/01/2022 20:38

Really? A million Aurelias?
I have never met an Aurelia and have worked in education for 15 years

garlictwist · 04/01/2022 20:41

I think it's spelled Aurelien

Strategist · 04/01/2022 20:42

@Synchrony or-AY-lee-un, the male version of Aurelia

Aw-ree-Lee-an
Strategist · 04/01/2022 20:44

@garlictwist the Roman emperor is spelt Aurelian, Aurelien is the French spelling

EverNapping · 04/01/2022 20:46

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - the Order of Aurelius - some of the most vicious and depraved vampires.

Or murdered Roman Emperor

Tal45 · 04/01/2022 20:46

So it's pronounced Or - alien? If so it would be a big no from me.

Warmduscher · 04/01/2022 21:20

OP, go for it if you like it.

It’s just there seems something slightly odd about naming your child after a Roman emperor Grin

Chunkymenrock · 04/01/2022 21:24

Too similar to Orwellian. Or alien.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 04/01/2022 21:25

I saw the thread title in trending and thought
"please don't let it be a baby name"

whatausername · 04/01/2022 21:29

The adjectival feel puts me off. And it's a mouthful..

SteppinOutwithMyBaby · 04/01/2022 21:40

I love it.

You could use Marcus, as in Marcus Aurelius: a bit like Daisy for Margaret/Marguerite.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/01/2022 21:54

Aurelian is lovely, I wish I was brave enough to use it! - obvious nn's would be Aurie or Ray to me, both very nice. I like Aurelius too but I suppose the "an" ending fits in better with all the more popular "n" ending boys names (Ethan, Roman, Logan, Sebastian etc).
