Poster says a name, next post describes what they picture when they hear this name.

Looks, personality, age etc. Please don't be offended. I love it when my name comes up hilarious. 🤣

Catherine.

Dancingsmile · 20/11/2021 06:51

Catherine is in her 50s. Bossy and lazy. Made redundant, avoiding getting another job and hoping people Including husband don't notice. Poor husband is stressed from being only earner whilst Catherine attends classes for what she labels self development.

DedalusBloom · 20/11/2021 07:30

Catherine (54) deliberately speaks quietly so you have to lean in and hear what she's saying. She thinks it lends her an air of mystery but unfortunately all it does is bring people closer to her chronic halitosis.
She is a small boned woman with wrists that look like you could snap them with one twist. She is irrationally proud of their dainty narrowness and wears tiny jingling bracelets to draw attention to them.
She has an affected tinkly laugh which she thinks is charming and flutters her hands around a lot as she talks.
Catherine's mother, who is a demanding harridan, lives with her and needs a lot of care. Catherine loves her mother dearly but most nights locks herself in the bathroom and cries while the shower is running.

DedalusBloom · 20/11/2021 07:31

Oops.

Gertrude

Philandbill · 20/11/2021 07:43

Gertrude is in her fifties and has a Germanic name as her mother loved "The Sound of Music". Gertrude wishes her mother had named her Maria or Louisa or even Gretchen or Liesl instead as she loathes her own name. She's called herself Trudy since she was 13 and can cope with that. Gertrude has worked steadily in administration all her life and is quietly competent and very reliable. Caitlin Moran would say she is a Susan. Gertrude has two grown up children who are steady and sensible She has been happily married to Mark since she was 24 and is hoping to be a grandmother in the next few years. She is content with her life apart from her name.

Dancingsmile · 20/11/2021 08:42

I forgot to put a name.

Graham

groovergirl · 20/11/2021 09:13

Graham is 70, and having recently retired and watched far too many episodes of Escape To The Country thinks it's high time he chucked in city life for that of the landed gentry. He and wife Pauline are looking for a Grade II heritage-listed cottage on at least 20 acres "so our dog has plenty of room to run around" even tho this ancient hound is at death's door and wants nothing more than to flop in front of the Aga all day. They also want at least six bedrooms "for when the grandchildren come to stay". (They never will.) Graham is ridiculously proud of his new Range Rover, which costs a fortune to fix every time he overturns it in a muddy ditch, which is often.

groovergirl · 20/11/2021 09:16

And the next name is ....

Quentin.

lousanne · 20/11/2021 09:30

Quentin is a French senior manager at an investment firm. Extremely clever. He wear glasses and has a French accent. Used to wear a wedding ring but doesn't anymore. No one really knows much about him - he keeps himself to himself.

Nelly (female)

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 20/11/2021 09:35

Quentin is an 85 year old gay man who lives in a ground floor garden flat in Primrose Hill. Prior to retirement, he worked in fine arts appraising, and was in a LTR with John, who he met and fell in love with at university. They were civil partnered as soon as it became legal, in a quiet, tasteful ceremony in an art gallery. Quentin lost too many friends to AIDS in the 1980s, and considers himself extraordinarily lucky to have spent his life with the man he adores. Sadly, he lost John to lung cancer 3 years ago.

Quentin has a long haired black cat called Dorian Grey - so called because he remains the picture of a pampered Primrose Hill puss despite spending his nights terrorising the local wildlife and other cats - and spends his spare time walking on the hill, in the library, and visiting art exhibitions. He's well-known and liked locally, but is a little lonely, and frankly, is looking forward to joining John again some day soon.

PeeAche · 20/11/2021 09:38

Nelly is 28 and overweight, with a “bubbly personality” and a very beautiful face. Nelly’s mother tells her she’d be attractive, if she could only shed a few pounds. Nelly lives in Cheshire and answers phones at a vets for £9.75 an hour.
She has a long distance boyfriend who lives in Houston, Texas. He works as a cashier in a gas station. They have never met. Nelly likes The Great British Bake Off, but she preferred it when it was on BBC 1.

Annabelle

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 20/11/2021 09:40

Oh, I'll do Nelly then.

Nelly is actually Elizabeth, but she's been Nelly ever since deciding to try and distance herself from her very middle class upbringing in St Albans whilst at drama school.

She graduated two years ago, and is actually doing reasonably well, having signed with a well-thought of agency and picking up quite a bit of work. To her intense frustration, in spite of her seeing herself as the gritty and urban type, she keeps getting cast as the well-brought up young lady she actually is.

Nora.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 20/11/2021 09:40

Damn it!

ifigoup · 20/11/2021 10:47

I think Annabelle got missed.

Annabelle is 50 with dyed blonde hair that she is just starting to think she should probably have cut shorter. She works hard to stay a size 10, by walking her dogs, jogging, and rarely eating carbs. She is still in touch with her three best friends from school and has seen them through various divorces, health scares and other crises. Annabelle works part-time as a volunteers manager for a charity and frequently (in non-Covid times) holidays in Greece with her husband and grown-up children. She is privileged in an oblivious British way but fundamentally a good egg.

Nora, again.

BlueFlavour · 20/11/2021 11:04

Grin @GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

Nelly is frightened of life. She still lives at home at 35, with her mum. Her bed is full of her childhood teddies, everything is pink and lacy. She manages to work part time as a charity shop manager. Her colleagues are always trying to get her to go out with them, they like her, but she can’t quite bring herself to. She loves Disney and is trying to muster up the courage to visit Disneyland, at least the Paris one. She dreams about a generic Prince Charming.
This year she has organised the work secret Santa, she is obsessing over what to get the teenage lad volunteer.

BlueFlavour · 20/11/2021 11:04

Sorry I did mean Nora Smile

MaizeBlouse · 20/11/2021 12:53

Nora is mousey, in hair colour and demeanor. She's incredibly smart but too shy to let on. She works in astrophysics and is in love with her female Co worker, even though she has a boyfriend. She eats little and often and wear knitted vests.

Balonz

SunShinesBrightly · 20/11/2021 14:07

Balonz is 28 and goes by the name Ben.
His parents wanted a quirky ‘out there’ name for their first born son and agonised for months before settling on the name.
Family and friends kept quiet but poor Balonz was teased terribly as a child.

As soon as he was old enough he changed his preferred name to Ben. He didn’t like that his name meant Balloon and that some people refer to their testicles as ‘ballonz’...

LunaticLandscape · 20/11/2021 14:18

I think Ashleigh got missed. She's short and blonde, recently qualified as a teacher and her hobbies include walking the dog and doing sponsored charity things like parachute jumps.

Sarah

Shasha17 · 20/11/2021 14:41

Sarah is slim, has reddish-brown hair, and is short. When she was a child she went to dance school and was very spoilt by her mum who thought she was the best at everything, so now Sarah has some bad qualities - she's a bit smug, still, and still feels superior to others. She is a single mum to a little boy called Oscar, she doesn't speak with the dad, she views him as a slightly embarrassing mistake and feels that Oscar is probably better off with just her because of her superior parenting skills anyway. She lives in a rented new-build that is decorated with a lot of grey and she likes to take photos of it for Instagram.

Erin

Onlinedilema · 20/11/2021 14:43

Sarah is mid 40s. She is nurse and is married to Thomas. She is petite and very pleasant.
She enjoys going for long costal walks with her Labrador and teenage son. She also paints and is a talented artist. Her husband is very easy going and agrees with all her decorative descisions. Her bathroom is white and blue and she has a collection of shells she had collected from the beach.

Onlinedilema · 20/11/2021 14:48

Erin is very slim with mid brown glossy hair and brown eyes. She runs a lot, hence her svelte figure.
She is single and works as a research scientist at a university.
She often rides her bicycle to work or walks. She wears low heeled shoes as she is conscious of her height.
She knows her fellow colleague Matthew fancies her, but the attraction is not mutual. She would much rather be with her older, female boss.

Onlinedilema · 20/11/2021 14:49

Tobias

WinterCarlisle · 20/11/2021 14:51

Erin is 23 and a newly qualified teacher. Erin was raised in a Devon village by her parents Laura, a homemaker and Richard a GP. She had a pony as a child and loved being in the pony club.

Erin’s just started in her first job in a secondary school in Lewisham that’s just been put into special measures. She’s absolutely terrified but desperately wants to Make A Difference as she’s very aware of how privileged her upbringing was. Erin reads the Guardian and buys her clothes in charity shops. She’s lovely but a bit of an innocent. She’s looking forward to Christmas at home with her parents but is anxious about telling them that she’s gay.

Ruth

Botanica · 20/11/2021 15:52

Ruth is mid 40s with a light brown, mouse bob and is a management consultant.
She is perfectly nice and perfectly normal is every way. Pleasant husband, two well behaved kids, lives in the suburbs and commutes into London to her client.
Did well at school, was earnest and keen in her approach to learning, never got into trouble.
Secretly wishes she had rebelled a bit more and pushed the boundaries throughout her life. Feels she could have done more and really excelled but has been too nice along the way. Not too unhappy with mediocrity as long as everyone else is happy and things are going well.
