Mariana?

This name is on my list, as an honor name to someone who pronounces it like "Marry-Anna". I adore this pronunciation and also this spelling.

I have seen that some people would pronounce this "Marry-arna" which I don´t especially like.

(Just a thought: I also pronounce Ariana like "Arry-Anna" - do some people say "Arry-arna?"

You'll notice the vowel sound, not just the r, is said quite differently by the Irish person in that link though.

“Thanks Tabulahrasa. I do know people aren't adding r's, that they're just describing the sounds they make when speaking with a non-rhotic accent. It did confuse me at first, but I understand that now.”

I didn’t, rofl

I genuinely thought people were adding rs because I’ve heard accents that do in fact add a slight r after an a where there isn’t one.

Yes, it can be confusing all right Tabulahrasa Smile.

@TrashyPanda

Marry Anna, like the trench
I’ve only ever heard the trench pronounced Mari-ahna.
