Matilda Clementine or Clementine Florence

Hello!

Due a baby girl start of February and have narrowed it down to these choices. I probably wouldn’t shorten either first name day to day, but appreciate that other people might. We pronounce Clementine to rhyme with fine.

We’re based in the North East and haven’t met a child with either name. I appreciate Matilda is a lot more popular than Clementine, but this doesn’t bother me.

Would you rather be called Matilda or Clementine?

I do like both but I'm going to vote for Matilda purely because I don't like "Clemmy", which I feel Clementine could end up being shortened to.

SirSamuelVimes · 29/10/2021 20:15

I really like Clementine. I know loads of Matilda's under 10 which puts me off.

PanicBuyingSprouts · 29/10/2021 20:16

Clementine without a doubt.

Shannith · 29/10/2021 20:22

Clementine. It is shortened to Clemmie. Both beautiful.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 29/10/2021 20:25

Clementine Florence, because Matilda is overdone now. Florence Clementine is even nicer, but I adore the name Florence (have boys so no-go)

ThistleWigz · 29/10/2021 20:28

Husband not keen on Florence as a first name unfortunately! It’s so lovely.

Matila is 100x nicer than Clementine.

FindingMeno · 29/10/2021 21:06

Clementine Florence

IHateWasps · 29/10/2021 21:08

Plus Matilda Clementine flows better imo.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 29/10/2021 21:09

I love clementine but feel it will be shortened to Clem or clemmy (clammy) so would go Florence clementine

DuploSubmarine · 29/10/2021 21:10

Matilda Clementine by miles.

I overheard someone being called Clemmie yesterday and it is just awful (to me...personal taste yada yada)

user1493494961 · 29/10/2021 21:10

I'm no help, I think both are lovely.

campion · 29/10/2021 21:17

Matilda's lovely and I'd much prefer to be called that, since you ask!
Clementine would be Clemmie almost immediately. Nice enough but not nearly as good as Matilda.

ProperVexed · 29/10/2021 21:19

Clementine Matilda. It was top of my list...but I had boys.

pilates · 29/10/2021 21:24

Matilda Clementine

Fivebeanchilli · 29/10/2021 21:32

I like them both but I say -teen at the end of Clementine so I'd go for Matilda.

TatianaBis · 29/10/2021 21:38

I prefer Matilda.

I’d do Matilda Clemmency. (Don’t like Clementine became of a. The song and b. Oranges).

Scoutingformygirls · 29/10/2021 22:05

How would you feel about people mispronouncing Clementine (Clementeen as opposed to Clementyne)?

DramaAlpaca · 29/10/2021 22:10

I came across an adult Matilda today and thought to myself how nice it was on an adult, so Matilda gets my vote. If you'd asked yesterday, I might have said Clementine, as I love that name too.

Greentomatoes21 · 29/10/2021 22:12

Matilda Clementine gets my vote.

greenlynx · 29/10/2021 22:12

Matilda
I don’t like it’s shorten I like Matilda but if it’s shorten Tilly is way better than Clemmy

WeasilyPleased · 29/10/2021 22:20

I love Tilda and dislike Clemmie so Matilda Clementine.

Tatum1234 · 29/10/2021 22:30

Clementine is beautiful.

RuthW · 29/10/2021 22:42

Clementine Florence. Don't like Matilda as too popular

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 29/10/2021 22:46

I know more Clementines than Matildas and love the name Matilda (and Tilda) so would go with Matilda Florence.
