Matilda Clementine or Clementine Florence

Hello!

Due a baby girl start of February and have narrowed it down to these choices. I probably wouldn’t shorten either first name day to day, but appreciate that other people might. We pronounce Clementine to rhyme with fine.

We’re based in the North East and haven’t met a child with either name. I appreciate Matilda is a lot more popular than Clementine, but this doesn’t bother me.

Would you rather be called Matilda or Clementine?

I like them both but I think Clementine Florence has the edge.

SleepingStandingUp · 20/11/2021 17:43

I'd go Matilda Florence personally

Clementine Florence

Thanks for all your help! We named our strong, sassy baby girl Matilda Clementine. We love her name so much and think it really suits her!

Congratulations! 💐a beautiful name for a beautiful baby.

GU24Mum · 09/05/2022 23:13

She's beautiful - congratulations!!

PS - I preferred Matilda too!!

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/05/2022 23:13

Matilda. More grown up than Clementine.

FayCarew · 10/05/2022 19:46

Matilda, but I'm not keen on either of them

PrimroseWharf · 15/08/2022 16:36

Beautiful name, congratulations!

mistygem · 15/08/2022 17:19

Beautiful choice, that would be my pick as well.
I wouldn't choose Clementine Florence because I feel Clementine will horribly date in next few years, it's already lost the steam from a few years ago and I feel Clementine would totally tell it's 2018 birthday.

RuthW · 15/08/2022 17:30

I really don't like Matilda so Clementine Florence for me.

Maybe make sure you’ve read all of OP’s updates before posting.

Clementine Florence is beautiful.

I find Matilda harsh in comparison.

Clementine Florence

SammySueTwo · 15/08/2022 20:31

Clementine is the most beautiful name. But I remember a Clemmie from school and I'm afraid she was called Phlegmie (flemmy clemmie).

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/08/2022 22:46

Matilda

Clementine is nice but a bit twee, Florence even more so

That’s a funny way of spelling ‘sorry OP, I didn’t notice the date on your first post.’

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 16/08/2022 07:58

I really wish @mnhq would let OPs pin an update post to the top of the thread for situations like this.

In the meantime it’s not policing to point out that there are updates and that it’s crass to critique the names once the baby has been born and named.

Congratulations OP!

pitterypattery00 · 16/08/2022 22:52

If I had to choose one of those to be my name, I'd choose Matilda and I'd shorten it to Tilda as I prefer shorter names.

Matilda does make me want to sing Waltzing Matilda though (lots of Australian family 😂)

pitterypattery00 · 16/08/2022 22:53

Ah just saw you went with Matilda. Congratulations OP 😊

Sweetandsour1 · 16/08/2022 23:03

Matilda 10000%.
I’m not sure what it is but the name Clementine makes me cringe. Would you like to be called Clementine and how would it feel shouting that name in a park?

Mamapep · 17/08/2022 02:35

I like Clementine but not ‘Clemmie’. Sounds like clammy and is just a horrible word. Same with Imogen/‘Immie’, beautiful names with awful, sickly nicknames.

Matilda is really lovely, and I LOVE the name Mathilde. Dislike Tilly but LOVE Tilda.

Not keen on the name Florence. I know a couple of kids named it and it weirdly doesn’t suit them… I think it’s an ugly, clunky name. Flo makes me think of a period. It’s better as a middle name though, if it’s the honour someone.

I’d choose Matilda Clementine.
I think Mathilde Clementina is cooler!!

Mamapep · 17/08/2022 02:37

Ooops, old thread! Lovely name OP!
