Whatever happened to Lauren

Inspired by a similar tread.

Whatever happened to the name Lauren?

As someone with a very common 80s name maybe it's the same but I'm surprised it hasnt made a comeback.

It sounds beautiful, the lovely L sound and with Wren being so popular I thought Lauren would be popular too. Also a great name if you are honouring a Laurence in the family.

As you can tell I really like it. So what's my hesitation?!?

Catherine Tate ruined it 😂

Knifeandfawkes · 11/10/2021 22:05

It's a nice name but every one of them I've ever met had been a knob, so I wouldn't use it 🙈

brightwhite · 11/10/2021 22:55

I love it!

Very unpopular but known and pretty imo.

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2021 22:58

It's been left back in the 90s where it belongs... It's not a name I like. Laura is much nicer.

35andThriving · 11/10/2021 22:59

I think it lacks the classic feel that Laura has.

I had 7 Laurens in the same class whilst doing A Levels. It was a weird Lauren hotspot, and I have only met one other one since!

Scoutingformygirls · 11/10/2021 23:01

It's just lacking the timelessness of Laura and the quirkiness of Wren.

I'm really not keen on it tbh.

BitchIAmFromChicago · 11/10/2021 23:04

I’m a Lauren! Born in the mid-eighties and I don’t know another one! If you use it then be prepared for a lifetime of Laura, Laurie, Laurel etc…people just don’t seem to get it despite it not being an unusual name.

MysteriousMonkey · 11/10/2021 23:04

I have one, and had three friends in my late teens who also called their daughters Lauren. We didn't keep in touch so my Lauren doesn't know any others.

Oh and yes @Knifeandfawkes my Lauren is definitely a bit of a knob, but she's 14 so I'm hoping it's just a phaseConfused

PaolaDiLorenzo · 11/10/2021 23:06

I used to really like it in the early nineties and planned to use it twice but had boys.
It does seem fairly dated now, which is a shame as it is pretty.
I quite like Laurel.

Janaih · 11/10/2021 23:17

There were a few Lauren's in dd21s year. It doesn't fit with the current what I would call frilly name trend. I like it, and Laura.

TurnUpTurnip · 11/10/2021 23:20

Dated

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 11/10/2021 23:26

It’s fine.

It just sounds a bit tired - it was popular so recently. People are more interested in fresher sounding names, that’s all.

Lollypop701 · 11/10/2021 23:26

I have a 15yo Lauren…. Quite like her!

AnyaMoondial · 12/10/2021 06:38

I really like it.

KittyMcKitty · 12/10/2021 06:40

There are 3 in my 16 year olds year at school. Lovely name.

Chachachawoo · 12/10/2021 07:43

I like it.
Not sure Towie has done it any favours...

Darceyhemingway · 12/10/2021 08:41

I really like the name Lauren and am shocked it's not more used too

KirstenBlest · 12/10/2021 09:10

It's a name that looks pretty but doesn't sound pleasant. I think it sounds harsh.

Florence or Laura are so much nicer

FuggyPidding · 12/10/2021 09:12

I like the name Lauren.
I only know of two though - one who is 40 & one who is 14.
Not sure why it isn't more popular.

FuggyPidding · 12/10/2021 09:14

An ex put me off the name by saying it was a stripper name!
I don't see that but I wouldnt call my daughter it because of that (silly) comment.

KirstenBlest · 12/10/2021 09:19

I think is sounds like Karen, Darren, Sharon etc
I wouldn't say it was a 'stripper name' but it seems a bit downmarket

daisypond · 12/10/2021 09:22

I think it’s a bit dated and not v classy. I prefer Laura for class and Laurel for quirkiness.

ZenNudist · 12/10/2021 09:23

I like it. It isn't as much of its era as Stacey Louise, Sarah Louise,

I prefer it to Emma or Laura or Sarah, other classic names of my school days.

Laurel is very nice.

olidora63 · 12/10/2021 09:26

I think Laurence for a male sounds far more distinguished than Lauren for female!

bloominglovelyorange · 12/10/2021 11:59

I like it

Love Laurel too
