Can't have Alice, Rosalie or Amelie.

Considering Adeline, Ophelia and Genevieve. Any others? Any favourites? Or any like strong and beautiful names that aren't french that go with this style?

Apart from being a boy's name, Dieudonné is totally unusable because it is associated with a public figure with deeply unpleasant opinions. Romilly and Fleur are not French girl's names.

Upupupintheair · 30/09/2021 21:46

Cosette
Colette
Élodie

This were all on our list :-)

Yep, he's the first result you get when you Google the name. Not someone to name your baby daughter after!

Sorry but Aude really doesn’t work with an English accent. Odd?!

Also I would have thought that names like Marie-France, Marie-Pierre etc are very old fashioned now.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 01/10/2021 12:45

Solenne.

@GreenTeaPingPong

Camille, like Camille Cottin in Call My Agent?

I wouldn't use Ophelia as even though it's a beautiful name, Ophelia in Hamlet is a very tragic figure who goes mad and kills herself.

Eva Braun was the lover (and supposed wife) of one of the most evil dictators this world has ever seen. Doesn't stop Eva being a beautiful and popular name.

They are.

I really love Dominique.

I know a Manon, he's an Egyptian boy. Not that that matters, he goes by Mano.

garlictwist · 01/10/2021 12:59

Some of these names are very middle aged.

Camille

OP, it would help to know if you are in France.
If so, names that English people can't pronounce properly or look odd to English eyes would be fine, but not if you are in the UK/US etc.
If I lived in France, a name like Bérangère would work, but less likely to in the UK.
Béatrice popular in both countries also.
PP suggested Amandine, lovely from a French point of view.
Audrey, Sylvie both would work in either language.

Random other people can use whatever names they like but the manons I know are French girls.
CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 02/10/2021 01:27

Jeanne. Love that name.

wombforanotherone · 02/10/2021 08:30

A lot of french girls at the moment are called things like

Manon
Ines
Margot
Luna
Noemi
Adelina
Zoe
Eloise
Emma
Livia
Leila

MerryMarigold · 02/10/2021 10:47

I love Noemi! With the dots which I can't do. My German friend is called Manon but everyone says the 'n' at the end in this country.

MerryMarigold · 02/10/2021 10:49

Adelina can be Adele too
Eloise, like the Bridgerton girl

BeaLola · 02/10/2021 10:54

Genevieve
Vivienne
Margaux
Sylvie
Amandine

I wouldn't pronounce Aude like odd. I would guess it would be closer to awed or maybe even ode. French speakers, feel free to correct me though.

Interesting that Audrey has come up a few times as Audrey is one of the very few female Old English names that has survived to the present day. I think Audrey Tatou has given it a sort of French chic vibe nowadays though!

The current French top 10 looks a lot like the names that were very popular in Britain in the late 80s and early 90s. Jade, Louise, Emma, Alice, Amber, Chloe and Leah were all girls I went to school with.

My favourite French girls name is Sidonie. I have no idea whether it's dated now. I do think it's both strong and beautiful.

Happenchance · 02/10/2021 11:56

Audra is also nice, though not French.

NameChange30 · 02/10/2021 12:37

Sidonie isn't dated, I know a young French girl called Sidonie Smile

Guineapigbridge · 02/10/2021 12:40

Big fan of Agathe

IVflytrap · 02/10/2021 22:18

@NameChange30 Good to know, thanks Smile it's so hard sometimes to gauge name datedness in other cultures!
