Can't have Alice, Rosalie or Amelie.

Considering Adeline, Ophelia and Genevieve. Any others? Any favourites? Or any like strong and beautiful names that aren't french that go with this style?

Elodie and Celine, both beautiful names!

Chachachawoo · 30/09/2021 11:56

Camille (pronounced Cameeye)
Elodie

People in UK tend to say gennavive rather than Jonvieve

Chachachawoo · 30/09/2021 11:57

Also love Amelie and Aurelie
But they are all so much nicer pronounced with a French accent...

@Snoopsnoggysnog

On these threads you always get an actual French person or someone who lives in France coming to tell us all that our favourites are dreadfully old fashioned and the top baby names in France are English ones Grin
Ha, yes, I'm usually that person, and I'm surprised it's got this far without someone saying it Grin

The top 10 girls' names in France are:
Jade
Louise
Emma
Alice
Ambre
Lina
Rose
Chloé
Mia
Léa

DH and I have a lot of French family and friends. I think my favourite strong and beautiful girl's name that works in English is Adèle (we couldn't use it because friends already had).

I love Anaïs (as suggested by a few PPs) but English speakers can't pronounce it!

I prefer simple names to cutesy ones, I used to like Amélie for example but I've gone off it (plus Amelia is so popular in the U.K.).

Clementine
Aurore
Bibiche
Anais which is pronounced An eye ees.

Auroreforet · 30/09/2021 17:18

Sorry should have put the umlaut over the I.
Ana's.

Auroreforet · 30/09/2021 17:19

Anaïs autocorrect

GreenTeaPingPong · 30/09/2021 17:20

Camille, like Camille Cottin in Call My Agent?

I wouldn't use Ophelia as even though it's a beautiful name, Ophelia in Hamlet is a very tragic figure who goes mad and kills herself.

NameChange30 · 30/09/2021 18:16

Maxine (not Maxime which is a boy's name in France)

@Auroreforet
Bibiche is not a real name, it's a nickname / term of endearment

I’ve always been fond of Dieudonne.

I also like Mathilde, Helene, and Sidonie.

NameChange30 · 30/09/2021 19:04

Dieudonné?! It's a boy's name and it means "God's gift"... wouldn't be my choice!

Google tells me it's more popular in Francophone Africa, I think religious names are.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/09/2021 19:11

I am sorry, @NameChange30 - I read it in a book, ages ago, and assumed it was a girl’s name. I’m an idiot! Blush

Lol, no you're not, well not as idiotic as people who call their daughters "Beau", don't get me started on that! 🤯
