Maci is the only name my husband likes and we’re pretty set on it. His family love the name, but my family are not keen.

Would love to know general thoughts!

Thank you in advance.

Like going for a Maci-D's?

TheSunIsStillShining · 24/09/2021 18:52

in hungarian it is the short version of Bear.
so to me it is not a nice name.If she never goes to that part of the world to live, then why not? :)

user1493494961 · 24/09/2021 18:52

It's a bit downmarket.

FionasFanjoFondu · 24/09/2021 18:54

Awful. Sorry.

I am trying to think of a nicer word than trashy, but I can't.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 24/09/2021 19:00

It really is the most dreadful spelling of a not terribly nice name. There must be something else he likes, surely? Maisie, Milly, Molly?

Otherwise Macey would be better than Maci.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 24/09/2021 19:04

I can't think of anything positive to say. The name is rather down market and the spelling actually heightens that. Maisie is significantly better.

Mothersister · 24/09/2021 19:05

The spelling is rough as houses. Maisie is nice.

17caterpillars1mouse · 24/09/2021 19:06

It's a nice enough name but the spelling is bad. Names ending in 'i' just look very 'I had teenage parents' or tacky to me.

Macy or Macie would be fine

ofwarren · 24/09/2021 19:07

I read it as Mackie?

donquixotedelamancha · 24/09/2021 19:07

Maci is the only name my husband likes

LTB.

beans1992 · 24/09/2021 19:12

I really love Macy but wouldn’t use the i spelling.

DelphiniumBlue · 24/09/2021 19:18

Maci like a Maccy D?

NigellaSeed · 24/09/2021 19:20

@Zarene

Macy is bad, but Maci is ducking awful, sorry.
Afraid so
Whentheydontmeanwhattheysay · 24/09/2021 19:20

I read it the way Teen says Maci D’s for McDonald’s!

GreenClock · 24/09/2021 19:22

Macy is better.

MadeForThis · 24/09/2021 19:23

Teen mom on mtv

RightOnTheEdge · 24/09/2021 19:24

I like the name, I dont like the spelling.

Mamainthemaking · 24/09/2021 19:24

Oh and for everyone asking it’s a French name popular in America. It’s a girls name pronounced like the American shop ‘Macy’s’.

BananaPB · 24/09/2021 19:28

I think that the spelling is a problem. It looks like Maccy (slang for McDonalds) rather than Macy

CeeceeBloomingdale · 24/09/2021 19:29

Yeah, I think most of us got that, it's half the problem. I wouldnt call a kid Bloomingdales, Selfridges or Harrods either.
Twizbe · 24/09/2021 19:30

It makes me think of Maci from Teen Mom and tbf she's done well for herself.

It's not a name I'd use but I don't hate it.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 24/09/2021 19:31

I think it's quite dated. It feels quite Britney-era American.

WaltzingBetty · 24/09/2021 19:34

I read it as Macki
Looks ugly. Would choose a different spelling

Elephantscantfly · 24/09/2021 19:38

I know I’ve commented earlier and it’s very hard not to have an opinion sometimes, especially when you work in a school. My daughters name is also very popular where we live and has a few different spelling options, we went for the most common. It suits her perfectly and I wouldn’t have chosen anything else. Imagine your child as an adult - will you still love the name, will they be embarrassed? Your child, your choice, ultimately nobody else’s opinion matters!
