Christy/Christie for a boy?

This could be hormones talking as I'm only a few days from giving birth with no agreed boys names... Will everyone think it's a girl? I like something about it but I don't know what.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TheOccupier · 22/09/2021 20:12

Too girly! I think of Christie Brinkley.

What about William and you could call him Billy for short?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/09/2021 20:16

I think of it as a boys' name, I think there might be one in a children's book perhaps?

I quite like it, but I would use it as a shortening, not on the birth certificate.

ManifestingJoy · 22/09/2021 20:18

I really like it, classic and cute, i think of it as a traveller name. Not sure if that would be something to consider or not. It wouldn't put me off, as I said, I like it.

fuzzymoomin · 22/09/2021 20:21

If short for something I think fine, and very nice, I like it. On its own I'm not sure. I do know a Christy short for Christian, he doesn't like "Chris".

Bloodymess · 22/09/2021 20:39

First look I would guess at it being a girl, maybe a nn for Christine. However if it’s a boys name in it s own right you could use it.

I googled but forgot to add “name” and first reference was to a man Christy Pym, after that lots of towels.

Regularsizedrudy · 22/09/2021 20:40

Makes me think of John Christie.. the serial killer

Withgasoliiiiine · 22/09/2021 20:45

I really like it, it's the Christy Moore association too! I'd probably have it short for Christopher or Christian though.

Rebelmcstreettuff · 22/09/2021 20:46

I know 2 men called Christy, both Irish, love the name Christian.

Shellfishblastard · 22/09/2021 20:48

I like it.

There was/is a Christy in The Split. He is a man.

It’s pretty unusual here in Scotland and I dare say it is in England too. But that’s not a bad thing

Enough4me · 22/09/2021 20:49

Never heard it used as a boys name.

Enough4me · 22/09/2021 20:50

*boy's

Blondiney · 22/09/2021 20:50

Turlington and Brinkley are both beautiful women.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/09/2021 20:51

I like it, and I think it is a completely normal version of Christopher. But then I am from Dublin.

meringue33 · 22/09/2021 20:52

Love it, but then I’m also a Christy Moore fan!

QuestionEverythingBaby · 22/09/2021 21:01

My DS has a Christy in his class and he is most definitely a boy, Romanian I think.

JaninaDuszejko · 22/09/2021 21:10

I like it and would think of it as a unisex name.

sjxoxo · 22/09/2021 21:27

It’s a no from me. xo

ditalini · 22/09/2021 21:31

I love it. Would assume boy and a nod to Irish roots maybe if not Irish yourself, but I also think of Christy in The Split who I think was Dutch.

Maybe go for Christopher and Christy as NN (definitely with a y, ie would be.more for a girl).

CoalCraft · 22/09/2021 22:07

I don't know any boys called Christy/Christie, but then again I don't know any girls called that either. For both sexes, Christopher / Christian / Christine / Christina etc. are just shortened to Chris.

I think if you want to call your son Christy as a nickname then go for it OP. Not as a full name though.

manhattenrain · 22/09/2021 23:43

I'd definitely think they were a middle aged women, sorry.

Fivebeanchilli · 23/09/2021 14:44

I know of a boy called Christopher who is known by everyone as Christo. I prefer that to Christie (partly because as a young teenager that was going to be my "girl name")

autumnkate · 23/09/2021 22:17

I love Christy Moore! Do it!

DressedUpAtAnIvy · 23/09/2021 22:23

Fine if you’re expecting a middle-aged Irishman.
Christopher is a now underused classic.

SevenOldLadies · 23/09/2021 22:24

Makes me think of Christy Moore as well, so would definitely think of it as a boy’s name, but as pp have said, agree it’s better as a nickname for Christopher or Christian.

I think Christy Moore’s formal first name is Christopher, so if that’s your inspiration you could do worse!

myheartskippedabeat · 23/09/2021 22:30
